Hello everyone, so my issue is : since a few days ago, on Jay 1, my game freezes completely after playing few or longer minutes of a map, but I never make it to the end without the game completely freezing on me. Do you guys have any idea on what it could be ? Redbaird told me on Discord that it could be a overheating issue and I think he's right because when that happens my PC fans start getting really loud. I know it has nothing to do with my wifi as it works perfectly fine elsewhere. If anybody has any way of fixing this, please do, I'd be glad to hear it.

How long has it been since you've thoroughly cleaned your case and fans, including the CPU fan and power supply fan, and refreshed your thermal paste?

I've never really cleaned it. It could be the reason it overheats like this. Thanks, I will look for that. Just a thing though, since it's a laptop the fans are directly inside the computer, meaning I have to try opening it but I don't see how. I'll send a picture.

The fans are underneath.

Laptop usually have phillips screws on the below/under side. You need to unscrew them all , then pinch a small object between both layer (top and bottow parts) to split it open.  That should give you a full view on both side interrior parts.  If you not sure on how to, google your laptop brand &model and you should find video on youtube and tutorials

I bought some guitar picks just for that.

ADDED:  You might see dust or hair on the air-intake on your laptop.  I wonder if it has an internal filter of some sorts.  :hmm

Yeah, that "fans get loud" might be the last step before the CPU shuts down for self-protection.  ... OR your graphics system might be overheating and 'freezing' the screen.  (That now sounds ironic,: overheat -> freeze).

Do not open the laptop yet. Find a software which can measure temperatures inside the computer, there should be plenty of free software for that.

Does the computer freeze also randomly at any other activity?

Do not open your laptop if you have no idea what you are doing. It is not just unscrewing a few screws, you have to know what to do in which order. Also, even if you open it successfully, putting it back together might prove challenging, so tracking carefully what goes where is highly advisable.

I found a web page showing how to open and replace the fan in my brother's laptop, years ago, but I missed the end of one line of text because the page did not word-wrap.

I broke some connectors that I had not seen before. 😮

If you have pets, cat hair is the worst, and the fans suck it right in...

Pretty much everything has a service manual online.

@boki is right though... if you're not comfortable doing any disassembly, best NOT to try.

There is an order of operations when disassembling a laptop and careful consideration of which screw goes where.

Laptop screws are metric and of various lengths and diameters.

It only takes one time with the wrong length screw in the wrong spot ... and you put it through the motherboard or the topside of your keyboard bezel.

Good luck!

Oh don't you worry I'm not doing any unscrewing. I never did that before and might need the help of my father whom I share the same appartment. Though, it seems that my game didn't freeze as much as the other days. I still get these occasionnal lag spikes but those don't happen everytime. I did some cleaning of my laptop today so I figured it might have helped. We'll have to see I guess. If it really overheats and I'm unable to clean it properly in the future, then I'll ask help to a professionnal or just my father I guess. Still, I appreciate all the help from you guys. I'll keep you posted if anything wrong happens later, I just hope not... lol.

I had this problem on the first build I ever did. 3 years into it and my CPU was running way hot and the game was very laggy.

Someone here recommended thermal paste so I opened my case, the fans were very sacked with dust and cleaned each blade, removed the CPU Cooler and you could see the paste looked very rough so I re-did it, put everything back together and it was like a new computer again. Now I change thermal paste about every year or so and completely clean my case out every month. Even with dust filters, a lot still gets in there and the fans get very dusty, just like a house fan does.

HWinfo is a great utility that will show you how everything in your machine is working, including CPU/GPU temperatures.

Well, since yesterday, I'm using MyAsus to check my laptop health. I think it will help me well in the future. I also have CCleaner but I rarely use it. I don't really know how well these works but I hope they do the job.

Make sure that all of your drivers are up to date for your system if you have not already. You can go to manufacturer website to view a list of most recent ones if you are not sure if you have the latest driver updates
