The moment when you realize that DJ grew up as a child in the GDR with Schulgartenunterricht and Du und Dein Garten 😆

School garden lessons in the GDR

In the GDR, teaching was compulsory from the first to the fourth grade. There were also relevant textbooks. Each school had an area (mostly outside the school premises) in which each school class planted some flower beds. The harvest was either fed to the school, offered to local retailers through regular purchases, or sold on site. The money raised often went to the class fund . The students were also able to take a part home with them. The school garden lesson was part of the polytechnic lesson alongside the handicraft lessons

You and Your Garden was an advisory program that was initially broadcast on GDR television and later on the ORB from 1968 to 2003. The program devised and moderated by Erika Krause was one of the most popular television programs in the GDR .
The focus was on gardening as a leisure activity for numerous families in the GDR who owned allotment gardens . In her program, the TV presenter explained to the small and hobby gardener how to properly prepare the garden and how to successfully sow, plant, care for and harvest.

You have more garden skills than me Bro 🧑🏼‍🌾

Because the only gardening skill i have is, that i can perfectly explain to you that a weed is a plant that has mastered all survival skills except learning how to grow in rows.
