Platinum VIP -=HipKat=- Posted January 10, 2021 Platinum VIP Posted January 10, 2021 (edited) Awesome news @captnconcrete So now, what are the benefits of running only IPV6? I don't know a lot about IPV6, other than changing and adding to the way addresses work Edited January 10, 2021 by -=HipKat=- Quote

More efficient packet processing – Compared with the IPv4, IPv6 contains no IP-level checksum, so the checksum does not need to be recalculated at every router hop. 1 Quote

Until it's fully implemented, which is taking about as long as 4K being fully implemented in TV viewing, we all are running both, or should be. 1 Quote

Dont be fooled by gateway IPv6 though. Quote

Vice86 Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 (edited) What i didnt understand, if you talk about the not working IPv6 adress, do you mean your Lan Adresses behind your router and modem on the PCs or your public Wan IP from your provider? Edited February 23, 2021 by Vice86 Quote

Run a cmd prompt and type ipconfig /all and you should see all IP's given to your network card along with primary and sec DNS servers etc, you will also prob see the ip beginning fe80 will be a gateway addy etc. Quote
captnconcrete Posted February 24, 2021 Author Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) quick question here i did so much stuff last few days i am now qualified for it tech .lol more than i care to ever know about it.lol question is i checked on 3 other laptops on my connection. all say ipv6 no internet access. so this is no way my pcs settings. what do i say to the provider when i call and they tell me all the shit i already did 200billion times. an they say its on my end. um i am 100 % possitive its not on my end. it didnt work for 2 months then one day magically worked now its back to not working. there shutting off the ipv6 arent they??? so update .. talked to sum dipshit. at midco .. they say nothing they can do too help .wow what a shocker there. so i ran a ipv6 test. this is what i got. Test with IPv4 DNS record ok (0.047s) using ipv4 Test with IPv6 DNS record bad (0.027s) Test with Dual Stack DNS record ok (0.085s) using ipv4 Test for Dual Stack DNS and large packet ok (0.083s) using ipv4 Test IPv6 large packet bad (0.087s) Test if your ISP's DNS server uses IPv6 ok (0.079s) using ipv4 Find IPv4 Service Provider more digging on this . its a IP_HTTPS issue device access there is some hotfix for it . but ill be dammed if i can find it with ipv6 down half of sites dont work. Snuffs99 Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Yeah as before mate i'm going with provider end, that testy tells you all you need to know, IPv6 aint working, move on with life lol. IPv6 is constantly under testing with my own ISP (BT) so i lose IPv6 internet access as and when they decide to mess about. I'm still not sure what it is you want from IPv6 that you cant get through IPv4? I mean i get its always nice to have everything working well but IPv6 doesn't give anything atm that you cant get just as easily on IPv6??? 2 Quote
captnconcrete Posted February 24, 2021 Author Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) im a hypochondriac when it comes to everything working like its supposed too. some site dont work when its off. i dont like this . so to me ur saying yeah one tire is flat on ur car but u still have 3 keep driving. this shit worked flawless for a yr or better . i watch my pc like a hawk. now it works then dont work then works again. if its possible to fix .. i want too.lol ur prolly right tho i need to give up ive done everything i can like a billion times. lady put me on hold came back said .. they actually have no way of shutting off ipv6 it works or it dont. lol why did that tech guy tell me engineers always messing with it . and for get tooturn it on .lol my buddy who works for eros data center https://www.usgs.gov/centers/eros his works fine. hum?????? so i should just go buy w10 and upgrade . prolly fix it hu. i am very thankful for all ur help snuff im just very flustered right now. makes no dam sense. Haha mate i totally understand, your talking to someone who took his PC apart last night cos a fan "sounded" like it was spinning wrong. 😄 As stated IPv6 although sometimes available is still under testing phases with most ISP's here in the UK so i'd assume most ISP's around the world would have something the same where its up and down like a yoyo. When you say some sites don't work i'm surprised as sites should work on all protocol versions, they should at least be backwards compat so should work on IPv4 regardless. Maybe you've altered something that has caused them sites not to work correctly? Prob i've always had with ISP's is i'm a network engineer so tend to need to speak to someone on my level, i don't want to talk to someone going off a script telling me to pull my socket apart to use the test socket or turn my router off etc, i've done all that before i rang. When i get through to a call center where they have zero knowledge they always try to talk you through their scripted list starting at step 1 turn router off then bak on again. lol................ once you divert away from that list they have no clues and your in need of an engineer who knows what IPv6 actually is etc. 2 2 Quote
