Facebook has been the target of a malware attack that poses as a video from one of your Facebook friends. The virus appears as a link in an email or Facebook message that tells you someone has tagged you in a Facebook post. When you go to Facebook and click the link you're sent to a different website and told to download a browser extension or plug in, in order to watch the video. Read more:

I just read that facebook updated his terms and conditions stating that they might use profile pictures for facial recognition. So for instance when u are in a picture with someone that is not youre friend yet facebook wil suggest that person as a friend after a database search based on facial recognition. Source: http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/facebook-may-add-your-profile-photo-facial-recognition-database-8C11030921 So do you think its cool or do you think its creepy and against privacy standarts?

The new layout uses a blog-style layout in which more static content such as your likes, personal information, recent activity, and other 3rd party windows are filed into a smaller column which we guess can either be placed on the left or right (since we’ve seen both set-ups). The menu or “Collection” as they call it, can be re-ordered to your liking. The wider column hosts your more active/chronological wall posts such as recently upload photos, status updates, videos and others. The previous grid of boxes linking to your friends, albums, and other personal items just below the cover has been transformed into a much more subtle and image-less menu. Unfortunately that’s all I know about it since I haven’t received the update. Since my friend has received the update (the one who took the photo), I assume the change should be here shortly. The rumoured design made its way into the public eye some time last year and looks like it will be finally replacing the horrid adjustable timeline they presently use. There are also reports that profiles have been mass-transitioning to the new layout in the oceanic regions, so it should go global in the next few days.

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in May of 2013. Managing the site has become too stressful. “Facebook has gotten out of control,” reportedly said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.” Zuckerberg reportedly went on to explain that starting May 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts. That gives users (and Facebook addicts) a year to adjust to liwithout Facebook. “After May 15th, 2013 the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back after Facebook goes out of business.” Zuckerberg said the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset. “I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview to a source close to a friend. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

I am regretful to say I have fallen for the facebook gaming... not farmville or any of that crap but war commander (RTS/command and conquer style). I was wondering if it would be ok to start a =F|A= clan alliance group for that game? I wanted to start a clan and not join another. Would be a petty thing but I'd like to represent us there. There's no admin or anything of the sort... just an alliance under =F|A=.

Parents help children lie for Facebook accounts. It probably won't surprise you that millions of underage kids -- some as young as age 8 -- are on Facebook, despite rules that prohibit children under 13 from joining the social-networking site. What may be more startling, however, is this: Their parents are helping to sign them up. These are among the findings of a new study appearing this week in First Monday, a peer-reviewed online journal. The four co-authors of the study argue that such age restrictions, inspired by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA, are mostly ignored by kids and parents and only encourage dishonesty. "Our data show that many parents knowingly allow their children to lie about their age -- in fact, often help them to do so -- in order to gain access to age-restricted sites," the authors wrote in the study's introduction. The vast majority (95%) of the parents of 10-year-olds on Facebook were aware when their child signed up for the site, and 78% of those parents helped create the child's account, according to the study. For 11- and 12-year-olds, the percentages of parental knowledge and involvement were slightly lower. Although 89% of the parents surveyed believe there should be a minimum age for Facebook, 78% believe there are circumstances that make it OK for their child to sign up for an online service even if he or she does not meet the site's minimum age requirement. When asked what these circumstances might be, parents most often cited school-related activities and communicating with other family members. What will happen if Generation Dora overruns Facebook? The study is based on a July survey of 1,007 parents in the U.S. who had kids ages 10-14 living with them. According to its findings 55% of 12-year-olds and 32% of 11-year-olds were on Facebook, while 19% of 10-year-olds were active on the site. The question of what age is appropriate for kids to join social-networking sites has been debated by privacy advocates and parental groups for years. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself has said that children younger than 13 should be allowed on his service because interacting online is an important part of today's educational process. A study by Consumer Reports last spring found that 7.5 million children under 13 are members of Facebook. Legislators enacted the COPPA law in 1998 -- the early days of the modern Internet -- to protect kids against predatory marketing, safety risks and other abuses that may result from others having access to their other private data. COPPA requires websites to gain "verifiable parental consent" before collecting information on children under 13. But many sites, wary of the headaches involved with trying to enforce the law, simply added age restrictions to their terms of service -- those wordy legal documents that users rarely read before signing up. The authors of the new study argue that COPPA has had unintended consequences -- restricting kids' access to the Internet while encouraging parents to act unethically -- and suggest that the age-based law should be replaced by universal privacy protections.
