Asus RT-AC66U router review Amazon.com price (90 USD) Amazon.co.uk price (105 GBP) Amazon.de (125 Euro) Image Source Technical details: Dual-band, 802.11ac, up to 1750Mbps AiRadar intelligently strengthens wireless connections via high-powered amplification and beam-forming 4x gigabit ethernet LAN ports 2x USB 2.0 ports 256MB ram 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz (can be active at the same time) Web-based interface Advanced cooling (whatever that means) The specs are pretty good, especially considering this is not a new (2018) router. Most people now would (rightfully so) expect USB 3.0. The "advanced cooling" sounds like a gimmick or something every router company could say. However I have noticed that it does not get as hot compared to routers I've previously owned (like the Cisco-Linksys E4200). I have not had issues with this router when it comes to heat, and rarely have to restart it. Speed wise it is able to handle whatever I do. Gaming and streaming netflix works with no problems, even with more than one person on the router. Connection with Chromecast works great. It may rarely loose connection but usually that is a problem with the chromecast, and only sometimes requires a router restart. I've owned this router since 2013 and see no point in replacing it. It has not noticeably degraded since then. The only reason I could see upgrading would be to attach a hard drive to it (since this one is only usb 2.0) or maybe to find one that has better web applications. This Asus supports the cloud applications that Asus has, but I haven't been impressed by them and haven't found a good use for them. A huge problem with this router is that when you attach a hard drive, the CPU goes to 100% constant. I remember trying it a few years ago and at the time there was no fix for it. I haven't checked, but I doubt that there is a fix right now. Adding a VPN directly on the router is not supported with the default firmware. To do this you need to use other router software like DD-WRT. The one I currently use can be found here. DD-WRT allows you to add a VPN to your router and turn it on/off whenever you want. It supports OpenVPN, PPTP, and TOR. VPN that I use is called Private Internet Access (PIA).

We're scouring the web at a frantic pace to bring you the best Cyber Monday deals around and we found one heck of a bargain in graphics cards. It's for the factory overclocked Asus Dual GeForce GTX 1070 (DUAL-GTX1070-O8G), which can be had for as low as $329. The exact price depends on a few different factors. It's offered by Jet.com and if you're a new customer, you stand to save the most. First, head over to the product page here. The regular price is $390, though there a few options to get a better deal (you'll see them after you register and log in). You can opt out of free returns and knock it down to $382.97, pay by debit card and see it reduced to $386.87, or opt for both and watch the price drop to $379.91. That's already a good bargain, but if you're a new customer, coupon code TRIPLE15 knocks 15 percent (up to $30) your first three orders. That brings the tally down to $349.91. We're not finished. Asus is offering a $20 mail-in-rebate for this card. You can find the form here (PDF). That brings the final price down to $329.91 if you're a new customer, or $349.91 if you're not. Either way it's a really good deal for a fast card. The Asus Dual GeForce GTX 1070 has a 1,582MHz base clock and 1,771MHz boost clock in Game mode, and 1,607MHz/1,797MHz base/boost clocks in OC mode. Both are above Nvidia's reference design, which calls for the base and boost clocks to be 1,506MHz and 1,683MHz, respectively. Bear in mind that you can use the TRIPLE15 code on other products as well, including an even faster clocked GTX 1070. If utilizing the same options as above (opt out of free returns and pay by debit card), the Asus ROG Strix GTX 1070 is knocked down from $430 to $388.87 with coupon code, plus another $20 comes back via mail-in-rebate. The clockspeeds on that one are 1,632MHz/1,835MHz (base/boost) in Gaming mode and 1,657MHz/1,860MHz in OC mode. Shopping for a new Gaming PC. I would build one myself but I don't want my nooby hands to touch and break anything expensive. So far I've come up with these two machines. MSI Gaming Laptop - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014QSTWKK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A3EEXTUSWX65VP ASUS Gaming Desktop - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016E803VM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Any differences? 960 or 970M? One is more recent, one is less powerful. Which processor is better, is there any difference? I've never had a gaming laptop so I don't know if they generate a lot of heat or what. Help me out so I can get back to gaming guys!!

Acer is releasing its two new Predator XB1 monitor models later this month. The Z35 is coming soon too, but that won't be until December, according to Tom's Hardware. The $799 Predator XB271HU has an IPS panel, a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 2560x1440, and a top-end refresh rate of 165Hz. Its response time is 4ms, and it comes with two 2W speakers, an HDMI, a DisplayPort v1.2, and four USB 3.0 ports. Meanwhile the $899 XB271HK is also a 27-inch IPS panel, however its resolution is 3840x2160, and its refresh rate is 60Hz. Otherwise, the two monitors are identical. Both are G-Sync enabled, and also have Acer's GameView technology, where you can switch between various customizable profiles. As far as the specs go, Acer's XB271HU is extremely similar to Asus' PG279Q RoG Swift, which could be the new best gaming monitor. Both have the same resolution, and cap out at the same overclocked refresh rate. This means they're likely using the exact same panels, but there could be differences in calibration and other internals that give one display an edge over the other. With Acer's monitor, you get an extra USB port on the side. As for the Predator Z35, it has a high price tag and some beefy specs to go along with it. It will start at $1,200, and for that money you'll get a curved VA panel with a 35-inch display, a 2560x1080 resolution, and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The Z35 doesn't have a firm release date yet however, and we won't know which of the monitors is the best until they're all out. How many features can you pack into the restrictive confines of a mini-ITX motherboard? Whatever the answer, Asus is coming close to it with the Maximus VIII Impact, which it announced at an event in San Francisco on Friday. The tiny motherboard is densely packed with an impressive feature list, including some capabilities that you won’t even find on midrange ATX motherboards. As a member of Asus’ high-end ROG Gaming line, though, the Maximus VIII doesn’t come cheap. This is a premium $250 board in a damn miniscule package. As you may be able to tell from the image above, the Maximus VIII Impact includes a built-in wi-fi adapter (802.11ac). It has a hefty VRM (voltage regulator module) mounted vertically at the top of the board, which offers some serious overclocking potential for both CPU and RAM. According to an Asus rep I spoke to at the event, they were able to push a Skylake CPU to its limits in the high 4GHz range on the Maximus VIII Impact. Also included: USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C, an on-board sound card rather than a small sound chip, and a fan extension card for multiple fan inputs (which would be useful in a versatile mini-ITX case like the Cougar QBX). In addition to its four SATA ports, the Maximus VIII Impact includes the recently-named U.2 connector, which Intel has used for its enterprise 750 SSD. The U.2 connector isn’t nearly as well-known as the up-and-coming M.2, but it could end up being the connector of choice for the fast solid state storage of the future, with included support for x4 PCIe speeds. If U.2 catches on, the Maximus VIII will definitely be a future-proof motherboard. Source http://www.pcgamer.com/

Heya guys! I have been in the process of acquiring parts to build a nice, cute little new PC, and I've got everything bought except for the motherboard.... I'm specifically looking at two, both sold on NewEgg. MOBO #1: GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4602#ov) MOBO #2: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LMUSB3/) Both support easy BIOS recovery, overclocking support, core unlockers, though I like that the GIGABYTE has the UEFI support, as well as a unique MOSFET design to reduce temperatures and the supposedly high-quality integrated sound. I have a DAC right now, though I'm not all that fond of it because of it's crappy amplification (powered by USB). The ASUS has the 4 expansions slots going for it though, however I do not plan to be using the legacy PCI slots. (Seriously though, I saw a AM3+ uATX mobo with a SERIAL port. What. ) Any feedback is appreciated, I am leaning towards the Gigabyte right now, however I am open to all suggestions. In addition, if someone has a link for a uATX motherboard that has 4 PCIe slots, that would seriously be great.
