Vanaraud Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 My take on it: There are again, like in the last year, cool and useful features packed with a new driver on the software package called "Radeon Adrenalin Software Edition 17.12.1". I like the most that AMD Chill has now whitelist instead on blacklist. Tested it and it worked with Mass Effect: Andromeda. Also I can call up AMD settings with ALT+R, also system monitor can be called in game with "ALT+Shift+O" key combination. Only downside is that it doesn´t have official software package for Win 8.1 but it installed for me also with Win7 package. Didn´t notice any perf gains in MEA though. News spotted first and more things covered on Toms Hardware : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-software-adrenalin-edition,5384.html 1 Quote
Xernicus Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 You won't see performance gains by using Chill. If anything, you'd notice a slight performance decrease (unlikely). You'd see a drop in power usage though if you checked with a Kill-A-Watt. I'm excited about these new drivers though, I like the ability to check performance and usage stats on my phone. Quote

In whitelisted games I didn´t notice any performance hit with Chill, it´s so "smart" and quick to raise FPS where you need that it´s not noticable. And in FPS games where you need all the power you need it´s not advisable to use at all. But in games with epic views\graphics like "Raise of the Tomb Raider", where you could just sit in one place for minutes to enjoy the views, the Chill reduces FPS well above the level of movie experience(24FPS) or cinematic experience(30FPS) implemented by console ports. And you don´t need more FPS to just watch and enjoy the views but in the meantime Chill keeps the card cooler and reduces noise from cooling system, thus helping even more to enjoy the views the game provides;) What I meant is that the new DRIVER didn´t provide any performance gains in MEA, at least not any noticable. It might be that in MEA the FPS gains were 10%, but 10% on 40-50FPS is only statistics;) 1 Quote
