So i downloaded ET again and i used to use 800x600 becuz my old lazy pc. Now i have little bit better (30fps->200fps) and i think this one can do 1920x1080 resolution easy.  There's just a one problem. While using 800x 600 resolution i have vertical black bars both sides about 1 inch wide and when changing to 1920x1080 it zooms my view really hard and i can see only 1/4 of the game. ( upper left corner).

You need to create a new shortcut to ET right click on the ink file and in the short cut Target on the end of it make one space after the last " my shortcut looks like this for ETL

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Enemy Territory - Legacy\etl.exe" +r_customwidth "1920" +r_customheight "1080" +set r_mode "-1" +set r_fullscreen "1" +vid_restart

May need to change the 1920x1080 to the native resolution it is 1366x768 if your laptop doesn't support 1920x1080hd then it will be out of range when it opens that is. Doing it this way will by passes the desktop resolution and you wouldn't have to keep changing the resolution it each time. If you know your laptop's native resolution if it's 1280x1024 or something else just change it to what your device is supporting or it will display incorrectly each time.

If your laptop is capable of displaying 1920x1080, you need to do the following:

  1. Right click the "ET.exe" and select properties
  2. Change to the compatibility tab
  3. Check the box that says "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

Should look like this:

with this new executable to enemy territory you can really have the hd resolution
but you must have an HD monitor and a video card that supports hd and the monitor must be connected with the cable hd

Added HD Resolutions (r_mode "11" = 720HD, r_mode "12" = 1080HD)
Also added cvar "listmodes" to view the list of r_modes

describe the features of your computer
mainly
cpu
video card
monitor

yes, I knew there was another way so you didn't have to change icons. Do as Foreigner, that worked for me. Easy fix. (only fix, and commenting here to find it in the future)

the monitor, if it is connected vga is not so if you put the HD 1920 x 1080 resolution probably your video card does not support it or you have old drivers installed
if you connect the monitor with hd cable into the ocntrollo panel septa video card resolution 1920 x1080 - 60 hz
After you put in the game
r_customheigh 1920
r_customwidth 1080
r_mode-1
r_aspectratio 1
Silk r_customaspect "1"
Silk r_fullscreen "1"

or use etgold 2.73
and write on cfg
r_mode "12"

r_customheigh is r_customheight with t on the end if the t is missing it will only rinder the r_customheight and the open gl will crash

also need to put +set g_fullscreen "1"

vid_restart isn't necessary it's just in case some video cards need a refresh

but it should work either way it would either show a out of box range if 1920x1080 is set if it's to big for your screen, if native resolution isn't 1366x768 in the display settings then it would give a open_gl error cause box bounding is relevant

OP is using win10?

Tried Win10 and made format C:/ as this POS can´t use DPI scaling correctly on older programs(ET). On the other hand in win 8.1 I have set under "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display" 125% for image size for desktop and ET starts up just fine also.
