set your FPS to whatever you can run steady... if your running 40 - 50  set your maxfps for right around that

what is your display refresh set to on your monitor?? set your display refresh in game to that of monitor... i can send you a copy of my  config if you'd like

 

also free up space on your computer, shut down programs you dont need... what are you running for a computer?

With my old computer I ran about 70 FPS fairly steady and it was pretty old and out of date.. still had the ribbon connectors from motherboard to hdd, only had 4GB RAM,  2.5 GHZ processor... So you must be working with little to nothing YOURDEATH if your running that low.   The one change that I noticed the biggest difference for me was when I got a new monitor w/ 144hz, went from 60hz to 144hz and i kid you not my accuracy went up 8% in game.

I agree with this.  The game is quite old and relies heavily on old school CPUs.  But... any PC that was made within the past 10 years or so should run the game fine.  Try lower resolution.

and cap your fps to something stable like 43.  Stable FPS is the king in ET.

And i only run ET xD

This gives me some insight as to your issues. My friend has one of those...

Unfortunately, it is notorious for overheating, and I am wondering my friend's issue isn't what you are experiencing.

Maybe you could use the program CoreTemp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
to monitor the temperature of your CPU while you have nothing open (ie idle), and while you are playing ET.

Please post the results.

ram doesnt cost much. i paid 60EUR for 16GB

graphic card dunno

ssd is always good investion, my mac starting now in 5 seconds, everything else becomes faster too

 

a side note: do u need to install windows 10? doesnt it need much ram and memory? win10 needs afaik 1-2GB ram, u have 4 at all.

dunno if ur pc isnt that good or maybe an older os could be better.

I have found that the minimum amount of RAM that is comfortable to run Win10 is 4GB. Anything less will not only to just be able to utilize "single-channel" speeds, but will result in virtual-memory swapping, especially regarding web/internet applications-- even if not all of the physical RAM is allocated. (there seems to be some new priorities to the Win. Task Scheduler)

 

Windows 8/8.1 was slimmed down because of the plan of the WinRT devices, but there can be UI/UX problems for some, and the above license issue applies.

 

An SSD would not help his problem, as far as his symptoms go. But it is good advice for anyone who wants to add performance to an already stable machine. So it is a nice recommendation

 

Regarding an 'older' OS... I actually don't know about that mate. Windows 7 could fit alright on 2gb, and *very tight* on 1gb (I did that after RAM failure)... once again though, newer internet browsers, plugins, and scripts are usually 'bloated' and take up enormous amts of RAM. But if he only has a Win10 license (and I'll make a reply on how to check)... it would cost him around $150 to downgrade, which isn't a good solution, in my opinion.

I take care of some machines that run XP-Vista... Vista runs OK, but it's task scheduler is shit, and it has memory consumption issues, mainly due to poor drivers...

Windows XP is simply unusable if you plan on using the internet... or any modern hardware... or any new application. I'm sad and sorry to say that. Especially regarding maintenance and troubleshooting... it is MUCH easier on any newer version of Windows; because WINNT40 through XP had an anemic amount of logs (and USELESS logfiles at that!!).

 

A rant below, plus advice against going the WinXP route:

 

 

I stuck with XP until 7 on my personal machine. And it was hard then... WinXP was starting to feel, well... laggy. So I decided to upgrade to Win7, and it ran fine on my XP-era HW. At work... the most important machine (besides the servers) STILL runs WinXP, and IT IS A PAIN IN THE A$$! I spend more time and money because of that OS, than on any of the other machines combined! I am going to bypass my boss and go to the president soon to demand an upgrade, because it is a waste of money.

i noticed that chrome for example needs much more ram than other internet browsers. i've usually close all unneeded task before running et.

im not a windows user i just thought a downgrade would help but sounds other issues could come up then.

 

so if u say win10 needs 4GB and he has only 4Gb in total for ram, he should get some ram eh? could help here.

regarding ssd was just an advice as i looked up his benchmark. =)

There are still things you can do to improve your game, but its hard to polish a turd   if you get what im saying, do what everyone posted above it will help, and maybe look into upgrading your computer sometime!! Good Luck!
