I have searched for ages on the internet to help solve this problem but I can't find a solution that acctually works..

I keep getting the 'USB device not recognized' balloon when I put my mouse in..

I have read that a lot of XP/Vista users have/had this problem..

Does anyone know what the problem could be and maybe a solution? :)

Thx in advance

Use the mouse on another comp, if there is no issue, update your bios on the comp thats affected. Also maybe you wanna make sure the chipset driver is installed as well.

Specs:

OS: Wisndows vista 32bit

Processor: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz

HD: ATA 465GB

Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard Compaq Presario CQ71 Notebook PC

RAM: 4 GB

One question though about updating BIOS..

I checked what version I have and what versions are available.. It seems i have F06 and there are 3 updates,

Do I have to update the first one then the second and then the last one or just the last one? :)

Srry but I'm noob at PC's :(

It normally refuses to flash if you need to go the long way. Anyway, if you're unsure, it won't hurt your BIOS if you install them one by one.

ok BIOS is updated but I still have the problem..

Any other suggestions? :)

As Joe suggested, test the mouse on another computer. If it works then you eliminate the possibility that the USB chip on the mouse is dead. It's not that uncommon to have the USB chipset on the mouse die. This is especially true if the mouse was in use at one point and yanked out of the USB port without being shut down properly.

You can also double check the chipset drivers you have, but it should not make much difference since windows should have default support for a USB mouse. That could be the issue though. It would help if you took a look at your BIOS and made sure that support for a USB mouse/keyboard was turned on. Here is the sample pic from HP's website for Phoenix BIOS

Ok I'll try this when I have the time later today :)

But it's definetly not the fault of the mouse.. I doucblechecked it :)

Thx in advance!^^

Try uninstalling that particular drive and see if the automatic install will correct it.

Go to your computers manufacture website (i.e HP,) Look for your mouse on the "supported device and drivers" list somewhere in the site. See if you can support the mouse your trying to use or not. If its not on the list there should be some type of instructions that will help you out.

What is the product name of the mouse your trying to use?

Installed chipset drivers back and before that remove all old chipset drivers.

1. Uninstall old chipset drivers.

2. Reboot.

3. Install new chipset drivers back.

4. Reboot.

Try to plugin hard ware.

Check below link: They seem to have same problem like you.
