As most of the world's population is currently aware already, Summer Oympics are infront of our doors with just days before the official kick off and start of another big sport event after already witnessed both Copa America Centenario and UEFA Euro 2016. This year Summer Oympics will present itself at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 5 to 21 August 2016.

There will be a record number of countries participating in a record number of sports, which will see two new countries that will take place at the event which are Kosovo and South Sudan. The games will future 28 Olympic sports and 306 sets of medals given out in total.

But sadly, this isn't the news about presentation about the games itself, but all the problems that Rio as an organizator is facing during the months before the event kicks off at 5th of August.

Rio de Janiero has major problems as Brazil is plagued by water pollution, a financial crsis, crime and body parts washing ashore and to tip it off a major health threat from the mosquito-borne Zika virus. Despite all the uncertainty, the Summer Olympics are set to begin on scheduled date, so lets take a closer look and see only some of the problems Rio are currently facing.

1. Violence and safety

Two members of the Australian Paralympic team were robbed. A New Zealand athlete was reportedly kidnapped and robbed by police.

A human foot and other body parts washed up on a beach where Olympic athletes are set to play volleyball this week, according to reports. The grim discovery is a reminder that violence is a worry and that public safety resources will be needed for the Summer Games.

2.  Zika virus

The first and most consistent issue is the Zika virus, which is suspected of causing birth defects and has been declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organization. Some athletes decided the Olympics were too important to miss and took precautions which may or may not involve frozen sperm.

Other athletes simply withdrew from the Olympics due to Zika concern, despite the CEO of the Olympics committee stating that the virus is not among his top 10 concerns for the games. His foremost priority is keeping the athletes and spectators safe from criminals -- and maybe even the police.

3. Uninhabitable Olympic Village

Upon moving into the Olympic Village, several countries complained that the dorms were in unsatisfactory condition. Australia went as far as to send over 700 athletes to stay in hotels while repairs were made. Plumbing and electrical problems were the most common issues, and an Australian representative said only 10 of the 31 buildings were "inhabitable." You probably have better odds at the freshman dorm of your local state college.

4. Water pollution

Severe water pollution was documented in the venues for sailing, rowing and other water sports. As recently as the beginning of July, raw sewage -- yes, RAW SEWAGE -- was still flowing from Rio neighborhoods directly into the water, along with a large amount of trash. Rio's waters were also found to contain viruses up to 1.7 million times more hazardous than a beach in the U.S. So if you're running away from a Zika-carrying mosquito, make sure not to jump in the water to hide.

The above examples are just a dip in a lake of problems Rio are currently facing ahead of the Summer Olympics, so everyone is already asking themselves, why on first place was Rio even selected as a place to host such a big event if by all seen now, they are obviously not on the level of preparation many would demand to see it being done. From Zika virus, to criminal and water pollution, towards an infrastructure delays and to tip it off, controversial Russian dopping scandal, will Rio be able to handle all the problems and make everything in order in less than a week from now when the event starts, only time will tell.

Hey bros

I like most Brazilians are totally against the Olympics, you guys are heard about things that we already know several decades, though not live in Rio, but in São Paulo will clarify what is really true and some myths.

About the violence and crimes that is true not only in Rio but all over Brazil, but there is worse, tourism in Rio only contributes to prostitution and drugs.

Regarding the Zika virus, it is not as contagious as well, of course is a major concern, but it focuses more in the Northeast (the poorest regions).

The government not only failed in the olympic village, but in health, education, transportation, infrastructure, etc. This is just a sample of what happens across the country !!!!

In Rio that is a tourist town is bad seas and rivers; imagine in other cities such as São Paulo!

One way to help Brazil, avoid watching or buy anything about it because it is the only way our corrupt politicians, hear us. And not to mention, the former president Lula thief, the economic crisis and etc.

I wonder which will be more of a disaster, the Rio Olympics or the World Cup in Russia in a couple of years..!

Australia Olympic team suffer thefts and fire in latest drama at village

The Australia team’s problems with their accommodation in the Olympic village have gone from bad to worse. Having initially refused to move into their building because of concerns over “blocked toilets, leaking pipes and exposed wiring”, they have now become victims of theft having been forced to evacuate their rooms because of a fire. To make it worse, they claim the fire alarms had been deactivated.

Two laptops and team shirts were stolen from the Australia team’s accommodation on Friday night when a fire started in the basement. The team suspect the fire was caused by a cigarette being carelessly tossed into rubbish by a worker. Around 100 of the team and staff left the building for half an hour, which is when the thefts are alleged to have taken place.

“We did lose some shirts and a couple of laptops, one on the fifth floor from a cycling official and one in the office downstairs,” the Australian Olympic Committee spokesman Mike Tancred said on Sunday.

However, the Australians are angrier that the fire alarms had been deactivated. They claim that the veteran shooter Warren Potent slept through the fire and was not woken by knocks on his door or phone calls.

Kitty Chiller, the Australian chef de mission, said: “Obviously that is completely unacceptable that a) the fire alarm was disabled and B) that if it had to be, that we weren’t warned about that.” The team have now elected fire wardens for each floor of the 18-storey building.

The Rio mayor, Eduardo Paes, had previously sought to play down the Australian team’s concerns before this latest incident. He told the athletes that perhaps they might be more comfortable if he installed a kangaroo. Chiller responded by giving Paes a toy kangaroo in return.
