.KeLFOuTO!r. Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 (mistake in the title : UPGRADE not update) I think my graphic card is dead and would like to replace it with a more recent one. But I need to be sure it's compliant with my pc before buying one. My current config : intel core i5-3470 CPU 3;20GHz, 3.21 GHz, 8Go RAM windows7 family premium 64 bits, sp1 network : intel 82579 Gigabit network connexion graphic card NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 And... If there are choices between several models, I need to choose the less expensive. Thanks for your inputs guys. 1 Quote

If you want a really nice one, then get a GTX950. But, get the 750 if you wanna cheap, but good GPU. I am pretty sure your PC can support it 1 Quote
Krusnik87 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Would have been good to know the brand and model of your motherboard, as the graphic card need to be plugged into it. (if it's PCIe 1.0, 2.0, 3.0...) What about also your budget? How much can ya afford to a new GPU? Quote
.KeLFOuTO!r. Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 thanks guys a few more details : motherboard ASUS SABERTOOTH (P67). As for the budget, I target less than 200€. Quote
Krusnik87 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Ptit loup fallait me demander en pm (could have told me by pm mate) Anyway, If i'm correct, your motherboard can use graphic cards up to PCIe 2.0 connexion. So no worries, we won't reach your 200 euros http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Carte-Graphique/Carte-Graphique-NVIDIA/ASUS/4921514-GeForce-GT-730-2-Go.htm#moid:MO-AD7B5M33670946 Indeed as it's useless, and a waste to buy a graphic card with PCIe3.0 which won't be able to use its full potential, the result will be the same as a good graphic card PCIe 2.0 So this one Asus in only at 70 euros. However, if you intend to change the motherboard too (next year for example), for 200 euros here's the 2 best i could find for ya: http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Carte-Graphique/Carte-Graphique-NVIDIA/ASUS/4935833-GeForce-GTX-960-STRIX-DC2OC-2GD5.htm#moid:MO-6B8B6M52334102 or http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Carte-Graphique/Carte-Graphique-NVIDIA/MSI/4946227-Geforce-GTX-950-gaming-2-Go.htm#moid:MO-CAEA6M57204530 Voili voilou chef! Vanaraud Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Anything except Fury X and GTX 980Ti are fine working on PCI-e 2.0, there are even strange results suggesting that PCI-e 2.0x8 has better performance than PCI-e 2.0x16 or PCI 3.0x 16, tested with GTX 750Ti if my memory serves me right. Also GTX 750Ti hugged only like 30-50% of memory controller workload, so something like GTX 950\960 shouldn´t be bottlenecked also. Afaik PCI 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with 2.0: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_3.0 5% of BUS utilisation: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-performance-myths-debunked,3739-4.html 1 Quote
Krusnik87 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 You can use a graphic card with PCIe 3.0, but is it really usefull? You know that no matter what it won't be able to reach its full potential, meaning its a waste of cash, right? :/ Quote
Ann!b@l Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Go on Cdiscount Kelf. I buy most of my hardware in there.. There's more choices, it's cheaper and every weeks there's some interresting "flash sales". e.g.: http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/cartes-graphiques/pny-geforce-gtx-960-4go-ddr5-oc/f-10767-kf960gtx4gepb.html#mpos=59|cd http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/cartes-graphiques/gainward-gtx950-2go-ddr5/f-10767-gainwardgtx950.html#mpos=1|cd http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/cartes-graphiques/sapphire-nitro-dual-x-r9-380-4go-ddr5-oc/f-10767-112420720g.html?idOffre=52891957?idOffre=52891957#mpos=1|mp http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/cartes-graphiques/msi-r7-370-gaming-4go-ddr5/f-10767-r7370gaming4g.html?idOffre=62326589?idOffre=62326589#mpos=1|mp 1 Quote

.KeLFOuTO!r. Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Conclusion : I brought it to the retailer who sold me the pc 3 years ago and told him I was really unsatisfied : for issues only 3 years after buying, and for their previous "fix". 1 monthe ago that cost me 50€ for nothing. Little pressure, just to see... They stated too that the graphic card was dead, and proposed to replace it by (**) for 109€ + 30€ install + cleaning. Seemed honest to me and I accepted. (**) NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 1 Quote

(**) NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 Well i liked your post as it's the same GPU that i told ya about. But... man it's way overpriced :/ 100 euros should have been the total amount of the card with installation :/ Well at least now, it's fine i guess, no? 1 Quote

So if the shortcut costs me 30€ it's ok... I played for 2 or 3 weeks on laptop, I must get used to keyboard and pc again now 2 Quote
