Hi all, I'm always interested in what other people are running and what favorite softs they use a lot, so post yours here please.

I'll start with my own:

PC Setup:

HP Elitebook 8460p Laptop

Intel core i7 processor -2.7ghz

6gb DDR3 ram (soon to upgrade to max of 16)

W7 Pro 64 bit

500GB HDD

Ran to a 24" HD flatscreen

Separate logitech keyboard

Wireless Logitec mouse

20Gbs Fiber Optic connection

My favorite place to DL free proggys:

http://www.snapfiles.com

Favorite free proggys:

*Wise Registry Cleaner

http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-registry-cleaner.html

*Used firefox as my browser for years until it became bloated...finally sold my soul to google and DL'd Chrome Browser a few years ago....love it, especially how it backs up all your bookmarks, settings, and extensions to your google account.

*IMAP Email Client:

Mozilla Thunderbird (something mozilla is still doing right)

*Microsoft Security Essentials for my AV

*iObit Smart Defrag:

http://www.iobit.com/en/iobitsmartdefrag.php

*iObit Uninstaller:

http://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php

*Foxit PDF Reader:

https://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

*AnVir Task Manager Free: Best task manager I've found. Manage startups, services and more)

http://www.anvir.com/

*KeePass Password Safe: (I use this mostly as a backup to RoboForm, is great for storing program serialz/keys

http://keepass.info/

*Zoner Photo Studio 14 (free version if you can find it) for photo management

*GFI Backup freeware: (I use this to make a 1:1 uncompressed backup of all my important stuff to my portable Hitachi 500gb HDD)

http://gfi-backup.en.softonic.com/

Paragon Backup and Recovery (system imaging)

https://www.paragon-software.com/free/

*Convert: (Use it to convert units of distance, temperature, volume, time, speed, mass, power, density, pressure, energy, and many others)

http://joshmadison.com/convert-for-windows/

Paid Programs I use:

*RoboForm Password manager/form filler. (Best $20 I've ever spent on software. Been using it for years and love it...all my site passwords are uber strong, just remember one master password. I use the desktop version, where all info is stored on my PC locally. They have RoboForm everywhere, which stores all your data on their secure servers, but I use the desktop version...just don't trust all my data sitting on a server somewhere which is obviously a hackers goldmine and target. They have a free version which holds 10 passwords and also a portable USB version. Highly recommended)

http://www.roboform.com

*Corel Paint Shop Pro 10 (poor man's version of photoshop......mine is several years old but still works great. ...can make some really nice chops with it that will rival photoshop)

http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/products/paintshop-pro/standard/?currency=en-US&sourceid=psp8-xx-ppc_brkws&promo=psp8-xx-ppc_brkws&gclid=COHw9Im2m8sCFc8lgQodY8cO7Q

Thats about it for now, sure I'll add some more progs as I remember them. Enjoy

Nahhh. ;) If you want 90's I have plenty of 700MHz P3's, 166MHz P1's, 486's... :D

I rather like these kind of topics, they're a great way to find new software... unless your HD is full. Then it's time to find disk compression software. :crazy

With Win 7, you do not all those utilities.

I'd dump Avast, SPybot, Hijack This and Tniy Wall.

Windows Defender and Firewall are fine.

Spybot stopped being supported years ago

Spybot is still supported. Definition updates and stuff are ongoing. Forums are very much alive too.

TinyWall uses Windows Firewall features. Just makes it easier to manage. More of a wrapper than an actual firewall.

And has some extras like currently open and recently blocked connections and their states.

There's also arguments for each type of antivirus. Avast gets good test results. And I've been using it since it came out, so have some bias as well. :)

Hijack This is mostly just an analysis tool. I figure it's always good to have more data if something goes weird.

Are they required? Probably not. But I find them useful. ^_^
