Chameleon
I get this error every time I try to do normal Win 8 updates. I have tried everything I can think of, last time I did this from a clean install, and a freshly formatted HDD... Any ideas?

Leader RedBaird Posted October 21, 2014 Leader Share Posted October 21, 2014 I googled " windows 8 failure configuring windows updates reverting changes " (you can copy it from this ) WHATEVER you do, be like a doctor and "First, do no harm". For us, that means don't do anything permanent that you can't reverse or revert. AntiVirus such as Annibal's implication was often first suggestion. Saw posts about further complications by AV software. One poster said he did not stop or uninstall his AV, but did clear the folder that Updater downloads the updating files to. His updates had gotten stuck at 35%. I once had to run the Windows Update Fixer for my win7. Here is the Win8 Update Troublshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-8 that does not seem to mention your particular problem, which means it is less common. Here is a sensible procedure that I found on one forum: http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/54480-failure-configuring-windows-updates-reverting-changes.html He is talking to someone who had restored their laptop to factory settings, had 97 Windows updates to install and got the same problem. install 5 at a time, less wear and tear on the computer and less frustration for you. If you get an update that won't install, hide it temporarily and continue on with the rest then come back to the ones that did not install.Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter from this site before proceeding with the updates. BTW, I had 17 win7 updates on last Patch Tuesday. PS: Annibal does not like Norton's at all!
Ann!b@l
PS: Annibal does not like Norton's at all! Indeed, really not at all.. Each one is free to use it. I myself used it years back. A NIGHTMARE! So no thanks, never again! Anyway, here there was someone with a similar problem.. AV was mentioned as one of the possible causes (guess which one lol), and Online Troubleshot worked in his case. So worth a shot. The laptop issue with 97 updates, I had 101 updates.. After seeing what you posted I went back to do the updates again, but instead of doing all 101 at one time, I did 10 at a time, and oddly enough it worked. I guess maybe 101 is just to much to do at once? I also got the same response from the PC manufacturer.. Thanks a ton for the help. I would have totally been stuck hahaha.. Thanks to everyone for all the help

Leader RedBaird Posted October 22, 2014 Leader Share Posted October 22, 2014 . I guess maybe 101 is just to much to do at once? 101? O M G ! Man, if it had to "revert" all of those, sheesh! Ahh, yes...with so many updates, I wonder if the program perhaps tried to install some out-of-order.
Ann!b@l
Or a first update was needed before being able to apply a following one related. This probably did fail the whole process.. Try next time to apply first the important updates and then apply the recommanded ones. But I don't think it was linked to amount of updates. I did many times and applied again last night around 200 updates after a fresh install of my OS without any problem.
