Goldman Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hi all, A small question: I wanted to practice sniping more seriously, 'cause I'm pretty bad in this area. What weapon do you recommend between the M40A3 and the R700? What are the pros and cons? To be clear, it is not for camping, I think that everyone knows how to do that. Thank you for your answers Quote
Heretic121 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 M40A3, bigger clip. If you plan on running with it, I would suggest bandolier as well. Quote
putts Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 R700. It kicks more, so you have to be on target. It makes you less wasteful of ammo. More powerful. With sniping, every shot counts. www.cod4central.com Quote
ronaldounit0 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I often consider the same question, so please indulge me as I give my opinion: M40: Pros: Bigger Clip Less Kick More people use it, so ammo can be found easier Cons: Not as heavy of a hitter Takes up more of the screen (or so it seems to me) R700: Pros: Almost guaranteed to kill in one shot (can't think of anything else right now, but I'll edit if I can) Cons: 4 round capacity More recoil Based purely off of what I said above, that's why most people go for the M40. However, I prefer the R700. It's not because I think it's overall better, it's just preference. 1 Quote

Eggtato Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 M40A3, bigger clip. If you plan on running with it, I would suggest bandolier as well. Exactly as you have put it and the M40 with a larger clip makes it a better sniper to camp with if you were to camp with it but it is also good to run with but you have 2 options with the M40 Option 1) The camping play style M40 Deagle Bandolier UAV jammer and Deep impact Option 2) The run style M40 Acog (but feel free to go with the normal scope) Deagle Bandolier Sleight of Hand and Deep impact But that depends on your style of play and how you want to play the game. I dont really like the R700 because of the recoil but if I want to use it then I will to be honest those 2 snipers are just as good as each other it just depends on your playing style and if you prefer to have a high recoil weapon or if you prefer a low recoil weapon. Goldman Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Thanks guys for your suggests, I honestly prefer a low recoil weapon. I never used the Acog but i'll try it. Otherwise the R700 is more powerful. I took in consideration all your comments, i think i will try both and make my own idea now Quote
putts Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The 2 use the same ammo, so it doesn't matter which one you pick to find ammo when you're out. Quote
google+ Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 M40A3less recoil, in my opinion. pretty accurate.the R700 does more damage but it's too sloppy. Quote
kamikaze71 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I think R700 it's better for run, snip, run ! Quote
Matt_14 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 M40A3, I have played and used this sniper more than any other gun and I normally get 1 shot kills with it. Quote
Cop Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I always use the r700. The more damage the better cuz if you hit someone and they don't die, they know where you are. Always use bandolier, jammer, and deep impact. Quote
Ktom Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 As I have been getting my sniping skills better lately, I personally would go with this (well seems to be ok for me so far) M40A3 clays (to try and stop those pesky runners creeping up) UAV iron lungs M40A3 because I found the R700 a little to much hard work. yes you get a better 1 shot kill, but if you are on aim then 99% of my single shots count, if they don't kill first time i quickly bang off another round. I also find that if I am sniping then that is it, there is no mix with other weapons etc. So it is me with either the deagle or a silenced pistol, normally the deagle. Quote
Davidjb7 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 After playing promod for 3 years I would suggest always going with the m40a3. It is weaker as many people have pointed out, but when you can fire two rounds from it in the time it takes to fire one in the r700 it is worth a lot. And if you want to be a good sniper you shouldn't go for the "One shot anywhere" gun. Go for the weaker one and improve your accuracy and then move over to the better one if you want to. I always play with this setup. M40A3 Gold Deagle (Very fast rate of fire, a good way to escape those 1v1s with SMGers.) Smoke (To avoid those LMG campers) Bandolier (Enough ammo to get a nice 20 kill streak if you are good.) Stopping Power (The One shot kill in Softcore) (The equalizer in Hardcore) Steady Aim (This might come as a surprise, but when you hop a corner and there is suddenly a mofo with a M4, being able to rip off a shot and know where it is going to land is a great advantage.) Hope this helps. I would also suggest playing on Promod servers (Like a nuketown only one) and then switching to softcore, AND then to hardcore. Because if you just jump into hardcore you will get wrecked very quickly. More enemy damage per shot, means less time for you to react. Quote
