Hmmm--my site's server seems to have gone down last night--we have had bad storms the last 24 hrs--

apologies to anyone who hasn't been able to view the site--hopefully they will have it back up soon--thanks for RedBaird for the heads up!

Here's a Solar Flare that happened on February 24th, 2014. 

 

It usually takes two to three days for them to reach the Earth.  Besides causing damage to satellites, communications equipment, and endangering astronauts, big ones like this can make some pretty spectacular Northern Lights shows.

Woah, very cool mate! I love astronomy but sometimes I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea we are standing on a rock that is hurtling through space at unbelievable speed......O the majesty of the cosmos........
