Ol Smoke Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Everyone who has played on the beginners COD4 server has probably had a series of bad re-spawns when the game is busy. Sometimes you spawn under the same Air Strike 2 or 3 times, or you spawn in the enemies locations, or other problems. Most of this I have seen before and it seems to go away when the server controller puts in a spawn delay. This can be anywhere from 2 seconds to 5 seconds. When you install the delay, it gives the game time to place you correctly into the location. Now when Helos and AS's are running rampant and nades going off allover the place and there is no delay, the game just places you at any of the four spawn locations that are open at that moment in time. The other thing that happens with no-delay is that you can kill someone and they spawn behind you, or near you, and then kill you back. With a delay that would not happen. So, with this in mind, would you just put up with the bad spawns or would you like to spawn correctly, but not get back into the game for 2 or 3 seconds? Quote

Ol Smoke Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Hey Speed, Does your server pack have the optional spawn hold key selection? Each player can select to have the spawn delay? We had that option in UF. You just held the left shift key down and it would delay your spawn. Quote

GI-JOE Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I believe we've implemented this on Abnerdog 2-3 times in the past and every time it's been removed (by request) after a few weeks...it makes recording demos a pain in the ass and tends to put a dent in the server population and didn't really do anything to prevent spawn deaths. Even though you would think it would have the opposite affect... 3 Quote

I agree with you, we tried the 2 sec delay, and people complained MORE about that than the poor spawns or dying 2 or 3 times in the same air strike. However, I Have a question ... Did something change about the Spawn LOCATIONS ? It seems to me something DID change back when the Abnerdog server switched over to the Chicago, USA site. Like now the spawns are more based around where your teammates are rather than the handful of pre-determined locations it used to seem to be. An example I can use is the Crossfire map, I used to be able to sit at this one location and see across the map to spawn camp them like crazy, but since the server moved, they no longer seem to spawn here anymore ? Is there maybe a setting that switches spawns from location based to teammate based ? And before someone complains about spawn camping it's allowed and will happen anyways. As example, on Countdown if you have a handful of good players its rather easy to trap the other team back inside the 2 hangers on either side of the map. And it won't matter if you spawn next to your teammate's because the entire team gets spawn trapped ... in fact in this case maybe getting a lucky spawn at a Different location away from your teammates would be preferred in this case. Anyways just asking because it seemed better, more fair, and we had fewer complaints about the spawns back about 2 years ago or so, before the server was moved over to Chicago ? Quote

This is mainly due to my inability to wait (even short periods of time), so with respawn timers I'm usually just sitting there hurriedly hitting keys murmuring "C'mon, c'mon..." Quote

I think they have had it like that since the 1.5 patch.... Also two years ago we had a better group of new players coming in because there wasn't a 1.7 patch...soooo yeh....just how it is. CruelKind Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 If you set it to 2 or even 1 second, it gives a small reprieve from spamming air strikes, as well you can actually make a class change as a need arises, not after it's passed. People may complain initially, but in the long run it'll be accepted without comment as the norm. In the end over-all gameplay should improve. I wouldn't mind the 1 second delay, but if it hurts overall server numbers then no leave it as it. However, if we have the option to delay by using the shift key then add that. I get so tired of dieing more than once in an airstrike or killing someone, taking two steps and getting shot in the back by the person I just killed. Anyway, I am for keeping the numbers up on the server more than anything else and that trumps what I like or do not like personally. Quote

The other thing people need to keep in mind ... is that we do several OBJECTIVE Maps on abnerdog now as well ... and while a 1 or 2 second spawn delay might not seem like much ... it is when you're waiting to get back into the game. And when we had the 2 second spawn delay last time ... keep in mind that got tacked on to the 3 second or so spawn delay you have in the OBJECTIVE respawn ... so now you're waiting for 5+ seconds until you could get back into the game and people got PISSED OFF and left the server rather than waiting ! ... so consider that before you vote yes. I vote NO ... as much as I want it fixed ... THIS isn't the way to fix it. Quote
