Ol Smoke Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 It was revealed today that Ford and other car makers do follow the data on your GPS unit that comes with the car. What business is it of theirs where I drive and how fast I drive. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and have them blank that thing out. I know there is an internal code they use to clear the memory. Now I know why they put blue tooth and wifi into the new cars. They are spying on us and if you get into an accident, the police can get a warrant for the information contained in your GPS system. docwarren Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Black boxes have been around since 80's & early 90's on some brands. Nothing new. Each brand can be disabled if you know how. My 2011 Cruz..... disabled the day my OnStar expired. No GPS but I get by. Quote
Razzled Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 if people have something to hide, they should be worried. Otherwise, let them track. We use that technology on a daily basis and while it might not seem important, it is helpful in many ways. 1 Quote
Antichrist Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 This is why I like my 1995 Tahoe. If you don't have a warrant, you don't get shit from me. 2 Quote

That kind of thinking works until laws are created so you are out of compliance with them. @Antichrist- Those mid 90's Tahoes were great rides. The seats were back breakers on long rides though. Gorilla Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 My first thought was, "Well of course they do". Everything we do, every where we go, we are constantly watched and tracked. Mobiles, cctv cameras, internet access, eftpos, credit cards, the man knows your every move. Quote

I have the LT model, fully loaded with leather, and a few months back was out 4 wheeling on some pretty rough shit for a little over an hour and felt fine. I have noticed the foam in the cloth seats doesn't last as long though. Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted January 13, 2014 Leader Posted January 13, 2014 Don't believe those TV crime shows where they have magic programs that "clean up" cctv and bank atm photos so that they look like they were shot from a foot or 30mm away. Quote

Pffff, I've had my LT for 13 years now and while the leather may be ripped, it is no back breaker! Soon the NSA will be in the ET servers collecting data Edited January 13, 2014 by TulsaGeoff Quote
Grim Reaper Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Let me know Smoke if they actually disabled it for you. I tried having mine done on my car, and was told "that was done at the factory, and they don't have a way to do it" BS I told them to look up the schematics and tell me where to find the component, and I'll have it done myself... and they squirmed a bit and said they didn't know if it would be listed Quote
Martyy Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I really dont care if they do track. That way if the vehicle is stolen, u can get it back right? Quote
docwarren Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Mine was in the trunk. Just unplugged the harness. No GPS, maps, or onstar, but I get by. Quote
Antichrist Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I really dont care if they do track. That way if the vehicle is stolen, u can get it back right? It's difficult to steal a vehicle that requires a key with a resistor in it, which is a technology most newer vehicles employ, thus making the GPS/onstar argument for theft recovery invalid. Quote
Masa_1964 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 and we have 80's level accuracy of gps on public LoLz cameras can make picture of face just seeing it from above Masa_1964 Quote
