Is there a problem to avoid forcing max packets on that server?

Someone still using 56kb on a Pentium III to play?

So many players using at 30..intentional or not..can't tell  but when i see some players talking about unfair teams, using map bug etc etc.

i do /players to check on that person...oh 30 max packets and talking about fair play!?

Just a question.

Whats the problem with 30 m.p.

100 maxpackets for 1 player, isn't the best for another player.

It all depends on connection, ping, pc, etc...

I don't know other worldly statistics but 3% of the US is still on 56k, and 6% are classed as low connection speeds (which I guess is in the realms of 1mbps).

I am on 4mbps but it is so unstable with so much packet loss that maxpackets 100 can still cause me problems. I use around 60 maxpackets on 4mbps, so someone on 2mbps could easily be forced to use 30.

silent mod has some cvars which could block laggers a bit, like g_maxWarp and g_skipCorrection, but they aren't much popular it seems (judging from what they -wrongly imho- say in the docs)

g_maxWarp

This allows you to control the amount of "warping" that players with high packet loss can do.

[cut]

Setting this to 1 is a good way to drive off just about everyone from your server.

The problem is, if you set g_maxwarp 1 normal players won't notice any difference (so it's won't drive off *everyone* as they say), but laggers would pay for it - maybe getting prediction errors, etc. (while as it is now, the one who pays the price is the opponent who has to face someone who teleports here and there)

You can't have both, so it's a matter of deciding who has to 'pay' for poor and unsteady connections, if the player who has it, or the opponent who has a good internet

Everyone can't be happy (at the same time)

imho maxpackets at least 40-50 and reducing g_maxWarp could be a compromise, or maybe using g_skipcorrection?

I never see players warping on etpro, even on jaymod they don't skip as much as silent, but the cvars are there, it's just a decision on how to set them.

btw. even allowing people to play with 333fps and the like makes no sense

because every frame you need to send a command, playing with such huge values (not allowed, for example, on etpro) means more bandwidth for the server and potential lag for the player

Used to be 333 was THE magic number for trick jumping. Think the "error benefit" is now provided for everyone?

I usually set mine to 125 because 333 causes wierd behavior.

this.

This..

144 hz refresh rate monitor here

must be even worst for a 60 hz against a 30 m.p player....double "teleport" :)

not only about the internet speed

anyway,not forced for a reason i guess...didnt nkow about the statistics :P

thx for the reply
