This new hammer is a new addition to the silent mod. I'm not sure if there are other additions or modifications or not.

It is called Geballte Ladung in German, an improvised version of bundled German model 24 stick grenade used in WW2 era.

Informations found on internet mention that this kind of bundled grenades was first invented by Germans to deal with the British tanks at the time of WW1.

I tried this hammer or marlet thing in soldier class.

I still don't know wheather only soldier class got this new weapon or not, however.

Some people say that other classes also got the weapon, I'm not sure, but at least, it seems to me that engineer class didn't get one.

Or my settings might have been just messed up.

It is impossible to throw this hammer or mallet thing much further, but this new weapon seems suitable at least for a banzai attack, not yet tried, though. :P

Nice addtion, also holds great tk potential on hardcore :D

The term Geballte Ladung in German refers to a combination of combined charges. The most simplified version of it is the one integrated in the silent 0.8.0. In other words, sticking 6 hand granades around the seventh one. In Finnish it was called "kasapanos". Kasapanos, let's called it a charge, was used as a demolition tool not so much against enemy soldiers but against tanks and enemy strutctures. For instance, mg-42 nests, small bunkers or to blow off tanks tracks. It has a lot of different versions and you could assemble it on the field. Usually it had hand granade detonator in it and different amounts of tnt as the explosive. http://www.winterwar.com/Weapons/FinAT/FINantitank2.htm#kasap

In general it was used to compensate for the lack of anti-tank guns(+rounds), artillery, tanks etc. But the downside of it was that it was heavy and you had to get really really close to the target. Of course other problems included, for instance, in a case of a tank that disabling tanks tracks does not not diable its cannon or machine guns. So forth, even if you managed to get close and disable it, getting away alive was another thing. So forth, Finnish soldiers usually used molotov's coctails because it usually disabled the "whole tank".

edit :

I tried to try this new weapon, and seems to work in other classes too.

But, I'm still not sure. Hitting the grenade key two times, sometimes it could be brought out, and sometimes not at all.

Nice addtion, also holds great tk potential on hardcore :D

...

Thank you, Joku, for your more detailed additional information.

Can't agree more with you on that 'great TK potential' matter. :D

This golden hammer or whatever would make it more handy to disable tanks and trucks in game, at least.

I'm interested in the history of conflict between Finland and Soviet Russia in the 30-40s. So, I'd like to appreciate you for providing with these links, too.

Should take some time and look closely into the contents of the home page.

btw, what is that 'soap bar' mentioned in the video clip ? I'd like to know the title of this movie itself, too.

Thanks

update :

Your class will not be taken into account in using this new weapon.

You can use this only after you pick up an ammo pack, from field ops or ammo cabinet.

Even a field ops himself needs to pick up an ammo pack first, to use the weapon.

The soap bar is just a term soldiers used refering to trinitrotoluene (tnt) charges Russian's had placed on the wire. If you watch close they are the shape and size of a soap bar, hence the name. I am not that familiar how much Russians used them in the way shown in the film. The way I know those small tnt "soap bars" were used was to do the opposite. In other words, attacking soldiers would get a long plank and tie the soap bar on the other end of it and then detonate it under the barbwire in an effort to clear big chunks of it. The other bonus of this is that you didn't need stick up your head to do it.

For Finland the Second World War is divided into two parts. The first part is the Winter War (1939-1940) in which the Soviet Union staged an attack that they claimed came from Finland (btw this was changed from the Russian school books somewhere in the late 1990s). Legitimising them selves to attack us. This was all part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement (two Foreign Ministers) that was made between the Soviet Union and the Nazi-Germany, dividing the "eastern-regions" between the two of them. Leaving us to fight alone against the Soviet Union. Btw the name Molotov's cocktail comes from the Winter War. Soviet claimed that the bombing planes were only dropping food for the Finns, Finns called them Molotov's food baskets. And since food also requires a drink, hence the name Molotov's coctail, to go with it, that was used against the tanks.

Second part, the Continuation War (Jatkosota), was held from the 1941 to 1944 in which Finland seeked, I guess you could call it retribution, with the help of Nazi-Germany. The Continuation War is the one the clip I added refers to.

And there are plenty of books written about the Second World War, I would be bit suspicious about tv-documentaries

I'd like to know the title of this movie itself, too.

To your other question, the title of the film is Tuntematon sotilas, this is the second version of it http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090215/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 The original one is this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048752/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 I don't know if there is version that has English subtitles in it, if there is I am not sure how accurate they are. The clip I posted had at least 3 translation errors.

Both films are based on the most commonly know Finnish book related to the Continuation War.

Ok, guys.

Now I see this hammer is unpopular. :D

But, I'm afraid  that this thread is not for the discussion of the preference, actually.

I'd like to suggest you visit following link which is discussing on that exact matter.

Title of the topic is "disabling-new-weapon-on-the-hardcore-server" : http://fearless-assassins.com/topic/53038-disabling-new-weapon-on-the-hardcore-server/
