Moxie_01 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Anyone know a program (preferably free) that will enable me to record COD4 gameplay? I have tried quite a few such as, Xfire, Studiocam, ezvid, screencastomatic. However they all (except xfire) require the game to be played in window mode(or they won't capture the gameplay), which lags the game and messes with the lighting. Except Xfire video which didn't even play the video when I was done. I have even tried recording through console but then there isn't a way to upload it for people to watch so they won't have to download it. Any opinions/advice? Quote
Mr.Mohapatra Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I don't know much about free programs, but as for paid, you can try Fraps / DXtory (DXtory has the a free version, but I have never tried it)... Quote
Angry Mosquito - Alex Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 moxie, cant u set up the screen recording on those programs and then open cod full screen and will still record? u can edit afterwards... I use screenflow (for mac) but its not cheap though (i use it for work n stuff but it will record anything i want and then i can edit lots of stuff after) Quote
Administrators JoeDirt Posted September 9, 2013 Administrators Posted September 9, 2013 Best paid program is Mirilis Action its not that demanding on your comp like Fraps or DxTory. Unfortunatelly there is nothing on the market that is free that I can think off that does not have a giant ass watermark all over the screen. Action is only 29.95 so its not like you are gonna go broke. And you can record fullscreen of course. Quote
LainTime/Bazingaa^_- Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I have tried many of the "paid" programs and imo, Fraps os the best one. Even tho i takes shit tons of space you gett a good quality. The other good program i have tried is Camtasia that you also can use for captureing the desktop and that kind of things. But the best part about that program is that it has an inbuilt editor that works really good. And why i said "paid" is cuz i dont want to break forum rules. Edit: As for the xfire not playing when you are done caputreing, is due to the xfr codex that xfire use. The program that i have found that are able to play it is windows media player (!) The_Dom Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I have heard of others recording their demo as normal, without fraps running. Then when you go and play the demo, you record with fraps and can use a config that is more video friendly.. That way you don't get any lag during game play and you still get a high quality video. Yes that is the best way to do it. go here to find a movie cfg that you like and put it in the main folder. Open the console and type /exec <name of the cfg>.cfg But do a backup of your original config so you dont mess it up. Quote

I use screenflow (for mac) but its not cheap though (i use it for work n stuff but it will record anything i want and then i can edit lots of stuff after) It will still record but when you playback the video the video will be nothing but a black screen. That's why I'm looking for one that can record in full screen and then play it back correctly. I have heard of others recording their demo as normal, without fraps running. Then when you go and play the demo, you record with fraps and can use a config that is more video friendly.. That way you don't get any lag during game play and you still get a high quality video. I have heard of this too. I tried doing this with other video captures but when trying to record the demo through cod4 player, it cannot be played in window mode. I don't understand why many programs won't record correctly in full screen. I have tried the Fraps free trial and it works great though 15 seconds it's close to enough. I am mainly looking for a free once simply because not only the money reason (as I just started college and am in $1600+ down the drain) Fraps requires the use of PayPal (unless there is somewhere else to DL from?) and I have run into countless problems with PayPal. Don't do the cod4 player, it alters the config in order to do the quick keys. Just do a /demo demoname (i think) in console. This will allow you to run the demo with whatever config you want. Quote

Any opinions/advice? in the xfire program folder is the encoder for the raw footage xfencoder.exe after you encode it most programmes will be able to edit it, but it will hit the quality of the footage.
