Xernicus Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Hey everyone- I've been looking into making maps now for a little while, and I was wondering about the tool(s) used for map creation. I've seen the Enemy Territory Map Editor being used quite frequently, but there are so many others that are floating around on the web as well- and I was wondering if one in particular stood out against the others.I'll be posting to this thread as I make the map(s), so if you're interested in my project, and/or want to give me ideas please either subscribe or shoot me a PM.See ya on the server! 1 Quote
DeathBringer* Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 GTK Radiant is the program, but u'll need some time to learn how to use it, its not that simple as you think 1 Quote
Xernicus Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 I figure. I've seen lots of people complaining about how hard it is to use. But as they say, practice makes perfect Quote
Death_Reincarnated Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I'll just say one thing - GOOD LUCK! Quote
Glyphz Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 you should check splash damage forum they got some things you might need Quote
S3ti Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I first started with GTK-Radiant and made some small Quake 3 maps, it's easier as you don't have to go very deep into scripting (like contructables, destroyables, moving, command map and objective based stuff). There are many and easy to understand tutorials around for Q3 maps. For ET it's getting way more complex and the Warchest forums are a good place to start and there is SD-Radiant which covers more functions for ET and its scripting system. You can basically look at it like a CAD software which is used by architects and engineers, it's quite complex. There are many functions and plugins which can make your life easier but you have to get to know them all, it will take you some weeks at least till you can design complex geometries as you imagine them. But if you are patient and motivated it's a lot of fun gl&hf 2 Quote

I have some experience with CAD/CAM software (Autocad, Surfcam, GIBBScam) but everything is different, and regardless of my previous knowledge I'm sure there will be lots for me to learn. Thanks for the luck, and I'm excited to start working on whatever I can (even if it's just a flat field ) Quote
