Death_Reincarnated Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Nothing too indepth but thats kool. Few things that IMO should not be allowed to change for competitive reasons: 1) seta m_pitch 0.015 - tisk tisk. Sounds like someone has arthritis...well many competitive players do in fact. This should be default value IMO. 2) seta cg_runpitch 0 and seta cg_runroll 0 - another interesting one that seems to be used alot. 3) seta cg_bobpitch 0, seta cg_bobroll 0, seta cg_bobup 0 and seta cg_bobyaw 0 - these four are also popular amongst competitive players. They remove, to a degree, the screen movement when getting hit. Besides these there are plenty more of visual/graphical changes that are used by many (general) players to "enhance" their PWNAGE skills. I myself have several general cvar changes in my CFG, but, nothing compared to some of the players configs I have seen - some players just go crazy. I always felt that if you want to play competitive in ET you have to join the herd of CFG sheep. Now this, IMO, does not solenly reflect on the players skills/ability. Don't worry I'm not having a go at you Quovadis . I just wanted to point out some things. D_R Edited June 30, 2013 by Death_Reincarnated Quote
S3ti Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 2) seta cg_runpitch 0 and seta cg_runroll 0 - another interesting one that seems to be used alot. Interesting in a sense that these cvars do plain nothing? 3) seta cg_bobpitch 0, seta cg_bobroll 0, seta cg_bobup 0 and seta cg_bobyaw 0 - these four are also popular amongst competitive players. They remove, to a degree, the screen movement when getting hit. No, they just remove the view bobbing (completely) when walking around. 1 Quote
Quovadis Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Cg_Bob is for removing view moving when you moce when crouched . What meant is cg_damagekick (b_damagekick for etpro) and is enforced to 1 by on all fa servers ( and tzac ). Oh and dude I use 3.66 sens for 1600dpi im really high sens player trust me 0.015 m _pitch isn't low at all. I use that cfg because its a mash up of all my personnal preferences not because I try to be better , Im probably the one that give the less care to my skill lmao it's just a game Quote
Death_Reincarnated Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 All of these visual effects that I have pointed out tend to be removed by majority of competitive players and by general players for general gameplay purposes. The reason is because it removes the annoyance associated with being able to aim at the enemy - just like bloodsplatter. @Quovadis if m_pitch 0.015 isnt low then why change it from default of 0.022 then? We all know that these changes are applied to gain the edge ofverthe competition, but it is just funny too see this happen so often in competitive FPS games. Players tend to rely more and more on tweaking the game rather than learning it. I won't deny it, I do it as well to an extend, but, that is because we are all "forced" to ride the same "pro" band wagon or be shoved back into the luggage cavity. Quote
Clan Friend SunLight Posted July 1, 2013 Clan Friend Posted July 1, 2013 We all know that these changes are applied to gain the edge ofverthe competition, but it is just funny too see this happen so often in competitive FPS games. Players tend to rely more and more on tweaking the game rather than learning it. Imho 'the game' is the game played by the official rules, if the rules allow to set something, then implicitly whoever doesn't set that is a masochist Another story is trying to bypass the forced settings (180 turn scripts, etc.) 'Standard' tweaks aren't even tweaks anymore in my opinion. They could be seen as tweaks by casual players or newbies (and you are not) That being said, you talk about 'gaining an edge', but if I had to play on default cfg, I think the only things I would change are: +sprint on mouse2 (I am used to that), no cg_bob settings (or I would get seasick in no time), my mouse sensitivity (and maybe cg_fov), crosshair shape. And I would have the same (low) skill I have normally. The rest is enormously overrated. Well, tbh in scrims opening the console to type /kill or change spawnpoint and class from limbo menu would be just retarded 1 Quote
Quovadis Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 M_pitch 0.022 is not playable with sens. 3.66@1600dpi , trust me. Quote
S3ti Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 We all know that these changes are applied to gain the edge ofverthe competition, but it is just funny too see this happen so often in competitive FPS games. Players tend to rely more and more on tweaking the game rather than learning it. It's not about gaining an edge. Official and forced settings are about making it more skillbased when it comes to competitive playing. The team with the better skill must win and there should be no ramdomness involved i.e. one can see his opponent clearly and the other has fog, foliage and atmosphericeffects enabled, that would make no sense. I always wanted brightskins and no spread in ET because of that Quote
Death_Reincarnated Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) What about cvars relating to bloodsplatter and bloodtranspacrency then? It is a default setting in ET and literaly 99% of the players turn it off - especially for competitive purposes. @Sunlight I would like to see you play ET with bloodsplatter on - this is how I started to play and TBH it annoyed the f**k out of me because I was getting shot and could not see where the enemy was, especially in dark maps and from afar. But, like you said, many of the "standard" tweaks are not considered tweaks anymore but a customization option like chaning your graphics settings - and I agree with that. @S3ti You can graphicaly tweak ET to make the enemy stand out more and thin out foliage/trees/smoke, while you can also do mouse tweaks to reduce spread (i.e. m_pitch). There are many "allowed" tweaks to improve this but are they fair and should be allowed? Well, who knows anymore lol. The point I'm trying to make is that using cvars to improve the way you aim/move is just lame/unfair. We could debate this forever but there is no point IMO. We had a similar discussion ages ago on our local server and basically concluded that if these cvars are allowed by the mod/server/ET then go for it and tweak your hearts desire. There will always be individuals that try to overdo this and basically cheat, but, with ET it is (unfortunatelly) better to ride the 'cvar' band wagon than the 'default' band wagon. D_R P.S. I personally have no problem with Quovadis using any of the cvars. It is just interesting that I always see these kind of cvars pop-up in configs. Edited July 1, 2013 by Death_Reincarnated Quote
Quovadis Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 M_pitch has nothing to with spread? It 's Y axis sensitivity. My sens is too high and my crosshair could not be stable in short distance fights with higher m_pitch. Yes alot of prople try to tweak their cfg to be better , alot of them also do to follow the ones who did it at first and a few ppl just customise their cfg because thats how they like their ET. Quote
TulsaGeoff Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Everyone has the ability to tweak their cfg. The game engine was designed to allow players to customize their game to their liking. Some would also say that it is unfair to have a better setup than others. Well it may be, but that is PC gaming. Some people play to be the best they can be. Some people just noob it up and are happy just playing. People that want to be the best are going to do everything they can to play as well as they can, within the rules, to give them every advantage. It is like this in every facet of competition... If you like blood splatter and like the original settings than that is fine, but you can't say it is unfair when everyone has the ability to change it. I believe the silent servers have bloodsplatter disabled for all the noobs that don't run a config or change their settings. 1 Quote

Well, who knows anymore lol. m_pitch was never used by anyone to lower turning spread, it's simply used to make tracking on one level easier. If I develop your thoughts a bit further customizing your /sensitivity setting should not be allowed at all because it could influence turning spread... Cvars who could be abused or give you a real advantage are forced or restricted by global configs and ever was. The rest is up to you. Death_Reincarnated Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) @ Quovadis Check these links, it might help you. Why not just use a lower sensitivity then? http://enemyterritorytips.wordpress.com/tag/aiming/ http://www.enemy-territory.net/basicskills.html http://fearless-assassins.com/tutorials/article/204-aiming-tutorial-for-wet-by-bosshk/ http://enemyterritorytips.wordpress.com/2008/11/29/optimize-your-vertical-mouse-responsiveness-m_pitch-and-m_yaw/# @TulsaGeoff "Everyone has the ability to tweak their cfg." - That is true but not everyone understands in depth how to tweak their config, what cvar does what, nor do they bother with tweakin their config (much). This is where the unfair advantage starts to creep in, especially in pub gaming. In competitive gaming majority, if not all, of players know how to tweak their config, BUT, their skill is then somewhat heavily based on it (config setup). @S3ti I'm assuming that is the global6v6 config used on comptetition, which is basically a default that was unanimously accepted over time. Anyhow, players can now bypass these restrictions by utilizing the mouse software which can even further change settings such as m_pitch. Edited July 2, 2013 by Death_Reincarnated Quote
Quovadis Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 I already know all this xD I play high sens so I can have the fastest reaction possible . 80% of figths are won by the first that scores an headshot ( because of damagekick ). + I am not a good aimer but what I do good is moving fast , evading panzers , rifle nades , etc . To 180 turn + jump in 0.1 sec you need really high sens . I like to think good aiming is useless compared to brained playing. Quote
