Aniky
Hello guys, i would need some suggestions or help at this problem im having. It's basically since some weeks that most likely my graphic card is dieing or something, screens below indicates some problem and after that the PC itself restarts for around 2-3 times, sometimes the problem gets fixed after reset, otherwise doesn't. First i thought its cus of overloading the pc, but yesterday i was only watching some series and out of nowhere the problem occured at that time, pc restarted afterwards and i wasnt able to run it properly, so i tried it today, run with safe mode and then back to normal and for now it seems it's fixed, but it's obviously that some part of hardware is dieing, now im not 100% sure if its graphic card only, as the pc restarts as well, that would probably point out on motherboard as well, but i would like to be 100% sure before i buy any new component so hopefully any of u guys know exactly what's wrong. Infos: OS: Windows XP SP2 32bit Graphic card: ATI Radeon 3870 HD, 512mb Thanks, Aniky Edited March 14, 2013 by Aniky

Ann!b@l
Have you tried to change the driver of your GC? It has solved many times my probs with ATI/AMD cards.. Even if it's not the last release, come back at the previous one..

Quovadis
Hmm if y ou get that shit even on windows screen , wouldn't it be the monitor the problem ? not sure about this one.
Clan Friend SunLight Posted March 14, 2013 Clan Friend Share Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) Hmm if y ou get that shit even on windows screen , wouldn't it be the monitor the problem ? not sure about this one. maybe corrupted video memory as regards the drivers, I am not sure if they are even loaded at that stage of the boot, or that logo uses just plain vga edit: saw the screenshot with bios message now, I was talking about win logo Edited March 14, 2013 by SunLight
rolf
99% sure that graphics card is just dead. You can check by swapping the graphics card, monitor, monitor cable or whatever. Also, if the motherboard is corrupt, since your motherboard has 2 PCIe-slots you might want to test it in the other slot. It is definitely not a Windows-issue, since even before booting Windows the problem occurs. And yes, GCs also die without overclocking. TulsaGeoff
You may also want to look at the temperature of your graphics card using speedfan software. It may be overheating and need a new application of thermal paste. As Rolf said test another video card slot if your motherboard has one. Heck maybe even reseating it in the mobo may fix it. If you have another monitor or TV, I'd try that too because it could be the monitor going out.
Aniky
At the moment i reinstalled completly drivers, i cleaned the box inside, replugged the GC as well, i do not have reserve monitor atm to test that out, i do on other side have 2 PCI-e slots, so i might try that out for the future, as for the overheating, i do have some problems, but mainly CPU that is overheating. Where exactly u apply the thermal paste at GC, i thought thats only for CPU.
rolf
Exactly in the same was as you do for the CPU: between the chip and the cooler. Only difference is that it is generally a lot harder to remove the cooler of the GPU.
Darketch
I had this problem. Changed my cable from dvi to hdmi and used the nvida GUI to monitor my temp. Went from crashing daily to every once and a while. Eventually replaced the video card. Was running a 9800, and up graded to a 560. Never crashed since. Think the 9800 just ran hot.
rolf
^^ The 8800 and 9800 had a problem that after a long time (>3 years) the chips came desoldered from the PCB after running hot. My two old 9800GT's most likely died from that, but I don't care about those anymore If you'd really want to check if that's the problem, you can throw your PCB in the oven for some time. Google might help you if you're interested Although I doubt that the 3870 has the same problem. Not unlikely, but I'd suggest to google it before heating it up
Aniky
My current GPU temp is going from around 59-61C, running only some basics programs, youtube, without any games or movies, when i play et, temp jumps to 69-71C. I wonder what is the normal temp for my graph card and at what limit would it cause it crash it? Edited March 18, 2013 by Aniky
