So the wired mice you think are better? I didn't know if there was a difference or not to be honest.. I am looking into getting a new one, maybe I should go wired?

Funny thing when you don't have a competitive nature anymore, you get used to the spawn time and just have fun.

That's true.. I am less competitive than I may seem.. I just enjoy team sports of any sort and I like to an integral part of the team.. I enjoy it so much when a group of players can work together and accomplish the goal.. But I agree 100% with you "Have Fun" is the most important aspect :D

hello friend, I'm not a good player but my tips are: Before crossing long distances, take some time to look around to avoid missing crossfire, use your sprin bar when this hand by hand, often ocupabas in moving, always directed to the head pointer. and play every day.

Here's the demo I recorded..

Good, but these are videos, not demos (which means I have a harder time watching them, it takes more time for you to make them, I can't get stats like accuracy and damage, I can't check how you move from thirdperson, I can't zoom, I can't slowmotion, etc. etc. etc.)

The only good thing is that I can see your config, and suggest you to disable at once all useless effects (cg_wolfparticles 0, etc.) or get a decent config from someone else. Crosshair pulse is good to check weapon spread, but eventually I find it distracting.

To record a *demo* (not a video) open your game console and type /autorecord

When you want to stop open your console again and type /stoprecord

You will find a .dm_84 (or dm_82 if you didn't patch et) file in your mod 'demos' folder. Zip it, and post here or upload somewhere.

Meanwhile, watching the videos I would say:

1. learn how to trickjump. Gammajumps in particular (possibly not halfbeat, because you look left all the time, but this is my opinion) are a huge training for your aim, one of the reasons why I used to be better in the past (I think) is because I don't gammajump anymore (and ofc because I went from etpro to jaymod). You can't improve reflexes, but you can improve coordination.

What's more, a good player must cover all areas of skill, trickjumping included (but it takes more time of course). For me someone who can't even do such basic thing as the 3rd jump in mrmen gamma map is not even an et player. :P

ET is not one of those realistic games where players are so damn slow, it's like a ww2 quake3 imho.

2. Aim always where an enemy could be, don't look at the ground, or places where no enemy can ever appear. Approach corners and dangerous areas properly.

The only exception is when you strafejump (for obvious reasons), and ofc don't strafejump in places where someone could attack you. Crouch-jumping reduces your bodybox, but it's an advanced technique.

Already by watching you moving around I can see that you need practice (but at the same time if you watch me crouch-strafe-jumping all the time, and pre-aiming at all known spots, then failing in easy fights it's not a nice view either, so you're in good company :P)

3. If you don't get a headshot at once, it is harder to get it later because of recoil, so aim at head level always (see #2 above) I see you often aiming at the chest. Pay attention to the hitsounds. You must get at least 1 headshot, if you kill someone but no headshot, consider it a fail. Try to headshot an enemy as soon as the fight starts or consider it a fail. In other words, set yourself little 'goals' and try to reach them.

4. Crouching in long range fights is a must 99% of the times (but quickly stand and relocate when you are under fire, then crouch again) and maybe tap crouch every now and then even in close range, to avoid headshots, reduce your bodybox and increase accuracy.

5. When you are under fire, especially if your ping is high (but yours is not, so np 4 you) it can be hard to hit your opponent even if you aim correctly, so you must always have a place where to retreat, and be able to judge if you are winning the fight or not (hitsounds, etc.). If you are about to lose, take cover.

6. Fight an enemy at once if you can. Some players whine about being killed in 2vs1 or from behind, but often it's just because they play too much aggressive (like me for example)

Attack, but don't go carelessly in the open, when you watch good players, especially when they defend, they position themselves in such a way that they can be attacked ony from a tiny opening. Mind you that I don't say not to attack, only be careful about the paths you take.

I think you have potential to improve a lot, pay attention to only one point at the time, i.e. play a map and focus only on 1 problem, for example pre-aiming at possible enemy locations.

- To get a basic mouse sensitivity, do this: go to spectator mode (free camera, when you can move around) and try aiming quickly at different objects, and/or keep your xhair glued on a small object and move left-right. If you notice you go often 'ahead' lower your sens, if you think you often fall behind the target, rise it.

p.s.

sorry for the long post, hopefully I gave you some good advice, of course there is a skill limit, otherwise I would improve myself as well hehe :P

Awesome thanks SunLight.. Those were indeed great tips.. The second video was just me hitting record in game, I just converted it to .avi, I am not sure how to make a real demo, I thought that was how Haha.. The first video was me fooling around and editing, that's why I posted the other too.. Let me know what I need to do to make a real demo, as now I am not sure if I know how haha.

I am not sure how to make a real demo

- Open your console (it's generally the key under esc, and at the left of '1')

- type /autorecord (if you have old version of et the slash is already there I think, otherwise you have to type it)

- to stop recording open the console again and type /stoprecord

You will find a file ending with .dm_82 or .dm_84 in your demos folder. If you play silent mod for example it should be a subfolder of silent folder I think. That file is the demo.

About HUD, its nice to have it clear and simple, same goes for in-game things, I like to remove all needless stuff :)

Some cvars(console variables) I have gathered that might help about it(also include values that I use):

seta cg_atmosphericEffects "0" (toggles display of map effects like rain and snow)

seta cg_bloodFlash "0" (toggles the blood effect when you are shot)

seta cg_bobpitch "0" (sets extent of the bob pitch (forwards/backwards) effect when moving)

seta cg_bobroll "0" (sets extent of the bob roll (left/right) effect when moving)

seta cg_bobup "0" (sets extent of the vertical "bob" effect when moving)

seta cg_bobyaw "0" (sets extent of the "bob" yaw (turn left/right) effect when moving)

seta cg_brassTime "0" (sets the duration ejected bullet shells etc last for)

seta cg_coronas "0" (toggles the corona effect around lights)

seta cg_crosshairPulse "0" (toggles the crosshair changing size according to bullet spread)

seta cg_muzzleFlash "0" (when set to 1, first-person muzzleflash is drawn, valid values: 0, 1)

seta cg_noVoiceChats "1" (toggles the audio of voice chats)

seta cg_runpitch "0" (see cg_bobpitch)

seta cg_runroll "0" (see cg_bobroll)

seta cg_showblood "0" (toggles showing blood spurt effect when player's are shot)

seta cg_teamChatHeight "3" (number of rows of chats)

seta cg_wolfparticles "0" (toggles display of particle effects, e.g. explosions, some smoke effects)

seta b_numpopups "5" (for etpro, controls the number of popup messages on the HUD, -1 = default, 0 = disable popups, n = number of popups)

seta cg_numpopups "5" (controls the number of popup messages on the HUD, -1 = default, 0 = disable popups, n = number of popups)

seta r_drawfoliage "0" (toggles drawing foliage, e.g. all the grass on Radar)

seta r_drawsun "0" (toggles drawing the image of the sun in the sky)

seta r_fastsky "1" (toggles wether the detailed skybox is drawn or just a basic sky)

seta r_flares "0" (toggle flare effect around certain dynamic lights)

You can either open console and type these one by one or just open you cfg file and edit the values there(if you are new to config files, check my signature for some tutorial).
