I have a question. I don't know what is "Skill top list" on et trackbase. Does anyone can explain to me?

It's the new rating system. The old one was based on xp/min, this one takes into account several factors including kills, damage (hits and hs), some xp but not the 'xp whoring' part (no medipacks, no ammopacks no uniforms)

Yay, it is going to be impossible to get any medic or ammopacks on jay3..

Hmm.. Agree with gubbi there, this is gonna make teamwork worse than ever.

 

But on the flip side, I guess I equally hate XP whorers sitting in spawn and not actually playing..

 

But still.. I think i'd rather some xp whorers than no team players. :(

Yay, it is going to be impossible to get any medic or ammopacks on jay3..

They discussed about it in tb forums as well, my view about it is this: not all players play for trackbase rating, and not all play for xp either, I don't think many things will change, some people who give lots of packs don't even check tb to be honest.

 

Personally I will still revive (that one is rated, but again I don't play for rating) and give some medipacks or ammopacks to people who really need them.

 

And talking about teamplay, some of the players who cry for packs play classes which are not strictly needed for the objective (because teamplay means to play obj) or ask for packs when they shouldn't (close to spawn and close to respawn time, as if spawntimes weren't too short already).

 

I have been accused many times of being a 'noob medic' just because I didn't give packs to some nub who was close to spawn and playing some useless class and doing nothing for the team. Why doesn't he just selfkill? Because he wants a killing spree? But killing sprees aren't team play.

Now for et nationscup I will watch some ettv games let's see how many medipacks they actually give, or if they just revive who doesn't selfkill...

I don't really care about the rating, although it is fun to play well and see it reflected in the rating. I like the fact that xp whoring is getting dealt with, but if you hand out med packs in the field to ppl who really need them, it's a shame it's not counted. It's better than standing at the spawn and handing out medpacks and ammo. They should really give more points to engineer work than fragging, maybe then more people will start playing for object. However, when its 25 vs 25, it's far too crowded to get to the object, unless you work as a team, but that's rarely the case.

they do what they can do, the only way to measure real skill is having a team and playing vs another team, who wins is more skilled.

 

giving lots of points to engineers? They will repair the truck, instead of going for the tank, or similar useless things. What's more, how hard it is to repair the truck? If you are alone it's very easy, if there is a lot of axis defending it, it can be hard, how can you figure it out from game stats? If it's a 'skills' list it should (attempt to) measure skills.

Anyway, I see that who was on top is more or less still on top so... :P players who gained some xp by giving packs went down, the rest are still up there.

I've always believed that rate does NOT reflect your actual skill in-game.. As a team or an individual. Poor team = poor rate / being a poor player and xp whoring / repairing rubish things = good rate, so it clearly doesn't reflect reality.

 

So I guess with TB combining these two rates, rating will a little less flawed on the whole.. But meh. There's always pros and cons.

 

Ultimately, they don't appear to be replacing the old one with this new system.. So providing they keep the both systems running along side each other, this will actually improve the game if anything..

exactly... I always say, rate shows how good you are at getting rate :P

 

that doesn't mean necessarily 'skill', in fact all etpro players are not there in the list, because in order to be there you need to play in a particular way and in particular servers, maps and teams, plus rename when you suck :D

In the end I couldn't care less on how the rate is being evaluated, but unfortunately many people do. And like you said, they play in a particular way, and they will never ever throw a single med pack when they know that they don't get anything for that.

I am not saying that they cared much before, but now they will just ignore it imo.

They WILL throw medpacks because the old rating system is STILL there ;) You have to play for both now.. Which SHOULD improve raters' gameplay :)

I agree with Sunlight up to a point. ET Pro/scrimming is a completely different world with little connection to the current state of public servers. True in ET Pro there is very little med pack action because the main tactics are usualy self kill right before spawn time or team kill revive for low HP teammates. As far as pub servers go Its almost impossible to do objective on large slot full servers such as jay1 and 2. IMO there is no way to rate the individual player in todays ET. I can get the same rate with a K/D of 35/25 whith 25 revives as K/D off 100-15 with no revives or med packs given out. I love the big servers for the insanity of play when I want competion I either scrim or play on Hardcore server.

apparently I'm #2 on this skill top list and I have high rate.

 

can't be that hard to play for both, I was doing it before it was even made.
