Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 declares war on sales records: 12M copies, $738M in first week

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has become the fastest-selling video game in history, crushing previous records set by earlier titles in the Call of Duty franchise. The game lab on Tuesday announced that week-one sales of Modern Warfare 3 totaled 12.3 million units, making it the biggest launch of all time and pulling in an estimated $738 million in revenue. The Xbox 360 version of the game lead sales with more than 7 million copies, a record for game sales on a single console that was previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops (5.8 million), and 4.8 million copies were sold for the PlayStation 3. Nintendo’s Wii split the remaining half-million copies with the PC version of the game. Activision announced late last week that the new title sold 6.5 million copies and reeled in $400 million during its launch weekend alone, also a record. Lol... It's okay, but far from best ever. That's unbelievable that they can sell anything and make hundreds of millions of dollars every time.

 

So they sold ten-twenty more times the amount on Xbox alone than they did for PC. It leaves little motivation for the developers. Easy money.

He comes another Call of Duty and ONCE AGAIN it will be the best first-person shooter EVER......... and once again it will sell more than the previous one (MW3)...... blah.

 

Is quiet normal of this kind of games get more and more gamers and, as result, more and more sells and profits. Kids in xbox, teenage and adults for PS and adults for PC (Nintendo: i am in that list ). Kids and teenage buy whatever is new and has bullets, explosions, blood, sexual content, etc. But we (older players) prefers games with more content and as fun as it can be (online multiplayer of couse).

 

In my humble opinion, MW3 is not the best COD game.

BF3 is a superior game by far. The problem is the way developers pay people that review game and reporting on shipped numbers not how much they actually sold (a tactic that Apple does all the time). In the end it all gets lost in translation and number are inflated, crappy games get great reviews and its left to the gamers to decide. And obviously a reviewer that states he is not a serious gamer should not be taken seriously.

EA is saying 5 million in the first week. A bit pale in comparison to what mw3 managed to do. Cod is just getting old now: same old dx9 engine, same style of gameplay, and a game freaking every year. Bf3 seems so much better.
