CreAtioN Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Ive heard that they are installing firbe cables in 97% of Australia, not sure about other countries if they have it or not. Fibre cables can make internets speeds up to 100mb/s Check it out (No link sorry) And about my internet how it has been all crap if you can remember. Its cause im not in the 'zone' for good internet. I checked www.speedtest.net and www.ZDnet.com.au for speedtests and my speed is 250kb/s So I cant play ET till this comes to my area which i think is around July. :l Quote
General Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 hey man dont complain. mine is 180KB/Sec and EVERY.OTHER.ROAD.AROUND.ME.HAS.FIBER OPTIC CABLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 Quote
CreAtioN Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 Mine is now 100kb/s so you dont complain! It takes 20 minutes to download 1 youtube video (On the website) No point in really having the internet right now Quote
RoosterCogburn Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Just be glad that dial-up is mostly obsolete, shit those were painful days. Quote
Rabidraccoon Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 It wasn't that long ago that 56k under optimal conditions would be the most would ever get from a pair of copper wires. Now 21meg is common as long as you're within a kilometer of a node. Give it a few more years and they double that speed with compression. But I see wireless as the growing method of getting your network access. 42meg service is available in Canada now. It costs alot to invest in physical plant. Easier to put up a tower. They put in fibre if they can offset the costs to the developers of communities. It has been a circus here with bandwidth caps and charges for over use. Quote
Gumby Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I live down the street from a big hospital and a fiber runs right underneath the sidewalk in front of my house. I am pretty sure it benefits me in no way though. I do however pay the 45 a month for Comcast cable @ 12MBS. I ping Chicago servers at about 30-40 ms. Its really nice. Quote
rolf Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Half this city is on fiber. We have it, but we can get 24/3 + TV for 20 euro a month, 100/100 + TV would be 60, and then the TV would be very bad. The moment our cable company stops with that 20 euro deal, we're on 100/100. Currently however, my wireless to the attic is the bottleneck Quote
*Sypher* Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I believe almost every city and small village in the Netherlands has fibre cables by now, only not all the rural areas have them. Sucks I live in the rural area, but my internet is at least good enough, since my computer couldn't run any better internet anyway. Quote
Dworkin Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 My internet connection is with Charter Communications.(Cable)...D/L speeds are usually right around 20 Mbps. From what I have heard, they have Fiber until the drop to your house and then it's standard co-ax. Quote
Larabeast Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 It speeds up because Fiber Optic means speed of light..... The info travels down the line at the speed of light. Hope this clarified any questions someone might have. P.S I live in Wv where there's a big line running through it and they wont let ANYONE here have access to it. Quote

To stare at the internet traveling at the speed of light is too epic for any one person to handle. Probably why it is under lock down. Quote
Larabeast Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 No it's because of f***ed up shitty corporate greed ^)^. Quote

Jefke Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 MMM.... I got vdsl at the moment Works perfect : no dam download limit (like many other belgium provider), 3mb/s download, 450 kb/s upload and cheap Don't have to pay anyway (dad does ), but prize makes everything But we can get fibre up to 100 Mbps => 99 euro/ month That's like 3 x what my dad pays Quote
