We need side by side comparisons

standard renderer2 ETL

The second one is better because it's brighter so we can see better the map. Unless you really like playing ET in a dark atmosphere.

brightness is can always be changed via settings these settings in the photos are default this is more about graphical power light tracing ect

I like the deeper graphics on the first one but yeah, a little more gamma or HDR effect to brighten it up

All the clips are recorded with different visual settings/styles.

I used HQ graphics settings for all:

r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"

r_ext_multisample "16"

r_lodbias "-500"

r_picmip "0"

What does this do?? Mine is set to 10, picmip to 1 and I don't even have r_ext_multisample in my cfg

r_ ext_multisample (0-16) determines the quality of different textures. See how the textures are jagged and flickering a bit with 0 and how smooth and nice they look with 16.

r_lodbias (2 -  -100) Controls how detailed models look. See how the player model loose "size" and "detail" when at 2 and see how it does not change when at -500.

And for r_picmip (0 - 3), just figure it out yourself. Just dont forget to do /vid_restart each time you change the r_picmip value.

That depends on personal preference. Here's a brief explanation of how to gain FPS, though you might lose screen quality.
You use r_picmip 3, and it feels much faster; you'll see how much it helps in one-on-one fights.
Also, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try setting the screen to 800 x 600. The graphics will be faster, but you'll lose some image quality (I only recommend this on small maps without long-range enemies, because you won't be able to see them clearly).

While this topic is not about configs more about renderer aka the coronas light tracking ect. This post is miss leading almost any hardware can get you 125 fps in all situations these days. In 99.9% of situations nothing higher than 125 is ever needed. There are some small small places where 333/215fps can be useful but this is mostly trick jump stuff that really is not done in normal play.

Yes, I think this goes without saying. Higher quality graphics means less FPS. I am not saying which setting to use, I just explained the difference, like HipKat asked.

AFAIK most of trickjump servers use pmove_fixed 1, so the 125 fps doesn't even matter. And most of FA servers (except for BEG2) use g_fixedPhysics "1" and g_fixedPhysicsFPS "125". This will emulate 125 fps physics for all players, so the 125 fps doesn't matter that much these days. The magic numbers for best jumping are 43,76,125,333.

"small small places" as i said aka 99% of the time it doesnt matter. If we can remain on topic that would be great :)

think it looks a bit better, but it is hard to tell vs. the other screenshot with such different lighting.
