Hey everyone.

I got my new PC like 2 weeks ago and made a new fresh install of ETLegacy , updated to last version. Everything was fine in the beginning but after one and half week I got constant FPS drop and high Ping .

Well I'll will post down there my PC specs also need to say my inthernet connection is pretty stable , also cable connected.

Aynway it really get on my nerves , while PC is new , Win11 is installed , some of them said to get back to win10 but I wont do that.

The graphic card is updated lately and it's AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics     3.70 GHz with AMD software Adrenalin Edition and beside that there are 32GB of RAM and 1tb on HD.

FPS is droping constantly over and over to 10/20 while ping with that gets to 120. Located in Germany where ping must be to 10.

Also I need to say it happend only on Beginners2 server also think it's on every silent server , also on other mod's like Jaymod it works super fine with locked FPS on 125 and it's playable.

Also I need to mention that I have old monitor (searching for other to buy) with 60ghz (dunno if that makes any difference) .

Also once to say on Jaymod work everything fine , on Silent mod cant even properly move one inch even as spec.

And one thing also , I run'd the PK cleaner but nothing changed.

Thanks!

It's best to go about such issues methodically.

  1. Do you notice performance issues in other games or applications, or are they restricted solely to ET?
  2. Do they occur only in online play or also on a local server?
  3. If I understand you correctly, the problems did not occur in the beginning and only after one and a half weeks. Have you tried loading the defaultconfig? Has this made any difference?

Hey Steiner!

As I said when i got new PC , what you do first is to install ET , in this way ET Legacy , after install i manage to backup from my flash my old ETKey from laptop and sil.data and everythhing worked fine for about a week . Ping was stable to 5 and FPS to 125. After a week and more it came to drop FPS together with ping .

For other apps and games I tried to play ETS which is set on High graphic settings and it runs smoothly also with World of Tanks which is set to High Graphic setting and I get avarage good FPS to around 60/70 what is good for WOT with open wide maps and things that are moving like bushes and tress.

I didnt tried local server , only I tried to connect Jaymod server of FA and works fine and smooth with locked 125fps , I was also on TJ server where I get to 500fps as @Drempa said , correct me if I'm wrong .

Other apps runs smothly...

What can I say more , I also have Norton 360 Gamers version .

And also I'll try to load diffconfig , didnt notice this , as I know it can be messed up when it goes from Legacy to Silent mod it can change switch configs..

I've always had performance issues on silent mod.

What I i usually do is to tweak graphic card setting for etlegacy, remove all the settings for new games that may cause issues with the game.

Secondly try lowering your graphics settings like r_picmip 3 and use a lower screen resolution.

Additionally try using r_fullscreen 1, I think default is 2 which is "borderless windowed" and r_displayrefresh 60, your HZ of your monitor.

You may also try to play with your integrated graphics if possible

Because the issues have only begun after a while, I would do the following in this order:

  1. Save your config file somewhere safe and secure, then reset all the settings to default and see if the problems persist.
  2. If the problems persist, what are the applications that you have installed in the time between installing ET: Legacy and the problems occuring for the first time? Was Norton already installed? Is ET: Legacy properly whitelisted? You could also try to completely deactivate Norton for testing purposes and see if the framerate drops still happen.
  3. Do you notice lag in any other real-time applications (like other games, voice chat)? Run some ping tests to different targets (by Windows command line or by using dedicated software like Ping Plotter).

Also, for testing purposes, unhook everything connected to your PC that is not necessary for the tests like gamepads. While I have not heard of this issue with regards to ET, some other older games sometimes get wonky when a modern gamepad (designed for XInput or GameInput) is plugged in.

my 2 cents:

- is the new install the ETLegacy 32 bit (better) or 64 (worse) ?

- run as admin and set the compatibility, if possible, to run only on 1 cpu (think can be done via the task manager...look for the ET process then "affinity" or something like..)

- add the variables to the laucher like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\ETLegacy_80\etl.exe" +r_mode "-1" +r_customwidth "1920" +r_customheight "1080" +r_aspectratio 1 +cg_fov "110" +set com_hunkmegs "512"

- make sure you load the correct config for the server

- share the cfg in case something went missing , make a dump from ingame (writeconfig <filename>is the command from console)

- if possible, in the gfx panel, try to lower the settings

For the 60Hz monitor just make sure it is using that max value while game is running (i had to do that check since it was defaulting to 60 ingame despite having it set to 144 in windows)

With 64 bit legacy version, he wont be able to join 99% of the servers, including FA servers.

r_picmip

R_picmip has 0 effect on game preformance, according to the testing that I have done.

Do /gfxinfo and look if ET is using correct GPU.

And to be fair, I think the problem is with win 11 and/or Norton 360. ET is 80% dependent on CPU and any background app that uses  high % of CPU can cause fps drops. When I had win 11 installed, I had huge fps drops too, I think it was windows anti malware that caused these. I eventually had to go back to win 10, and then it was fine again.

Why would anyone have Norton on their computer? It's always been a resource hog

go to your windows power consumption settings and set it to  " best performance "

in my ignorance regarding ping I suggest this or similar even if I think you have already thought about it

or It could also be that some Win 11 update has a negative effect.

Just a suggestion to check, but do you have r_primitives set to 2 as you have amd? On jaymod it can be 2, or so I had to do even if I have nvidia now.

Have you tried turn off threaded optimisiation? Not sure if it works on AMD.
