We all know that ET is the greatest game ever......

But how would feel about the idea of ET being released on unreal engine 5 graphics and all other game features stayed exactly the same.

Would ET regain popular interest again?

Your thoughts.....

Thanks

one of the reasons why ET was based on the Quake aka ID-tech engine and not on the Unreal one was, that the quake engine is focused on fast strafe paced adrenaline pumping fps shooting.

mostly possible on potato computers for everyone with an open license back at the time.

Unreal on the other hand was to bloated as an engine to allow those realtime calculations compared to Quake in these amounts of Frames per second.

on that focus nothing has changed until today.

UE is still bloated into oblivion while most FPS gamers do lower their graphical detail to gain more FPS and being able to see the enemy with less distractions.

the nowadays modern derivat would be ID-Techs 7 engine which is the only one afaik capable without FPS limitations.

imagine having a 1000 FPS while tuning the graphics down as bad as possible to see the enemy earlier and having less eye-distractions...

it would be lovely to see ET on a modern engine,

but it would not peak out the gameplay, since the Objective teamplay and the focus of it within the simple factor of the classes in-game is what makes ET so unique.

this concept until today is the only reason why ET is still alive.

Imagine ID-tech Making another modern ET as a free to play online shooter for the 20th anniversary... that would be something huh...

Our community is testament to how well ET has aged.

Still, there are a lot of areas that a proper remake could vastly improve upon: graphics, sound, netcode (especially support for higher tick rates/snaprates), fixing and removing bugs. Controversial take, but also the balancing could need some work done to it. The MP40 and Thompson are overall so far better than all the other guns in the game that from a balancing standpoint they would have to be nerfed or other guns in the game would need to be buffed. Then again, by touching the balance you would also substantially alter the gameplay which in ET mostly revolves around aim battles between those two guns.

I think there's also room for some new weapon additions (like No Quarter) but similarly, gameplay and flow of the game would be altered by it substantially, especially with the inclusion of an Assault Rifle weapon that would best the MP40 and Thompson on mid to long ranges.

Difficult decisions would have to be made with regards to some of the gameplay quirks of ET/RtCW like turning spread (the faster you move the mouse the bigger the spread of your weapon becomes), massive flinching when being shot at and spread increases when standing on uneven ground. While they all attribute to making the games unique and are taken into consideration by good map designers while creating their maps, they are strange design choices overall.

If COD can be sold - year over year... with remakes / changes - why you think ET can't be?  People need to understand as long as game concept is same, it should sell.

A couple years ago a project had surfaced and was deemed a “Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Remake” on unreal engine 4/5. Can’t find the video anywhere, as the person ended up starting it and taking funds from people and then disappeared. It looked really promising and good, I think this would revive the community more than we could have imagined. I hope it happens one day, people would find the current W:ET and be in for a blast from the past.

I think it could be neat. As mentioned though it would definitely need to keep its same game movement feel.

I think the game would see a lot of increase if it was basically relaunched again I know it kind of was on steam for ETL, which is what brought me back honestly..

But I guess correct me if I am wrong but they should bring back development and support to the other mods besides ETL as well?

I feel like I read somewhere that the other mods don't really receive dev or support anymore and that's basically the point of ETL is to have support and bring back the feel of vanilla ET?
