Administrators JoeDirt Posted November 2, 2010 Administrators Share Posted November 2, 2010 You created a short, and killed your motherboard, most likely you broke something while installing the new cpu, seen that happen before.
Chuckun
As JoeDirt said, almost definitely a short.. A spec of dust touching two pins, a bent pin, etc.. Anything like that could've caused it.. However, you might want to check the fuse (as I think I saw other people suggest?) in the PSU and in the plug.. HOPEFULLY, the fuse might be blown and will have prevented any real damage.. However, 99% of the time these fuses are overrated due to a 'peak surge' when you first turn the machine on.. However this is very unnecessary as a fuse will take a larger peak load than the rating for a split second.. But they do it anyway.

NoGooD
Granted it's a bit late, but did you properly ground yourself prior to switching the CPUs?
