Growing up in the mid-west which is one of the biggest rap capitals there is 1,000's of independent rappers so I grew up around it and it has always been there. My husband actually produces for about 30-indepedent ones and gets mix-tapes out for them. I can safely say Eminem is not my favorite but he is the best and that's just that. Epps from strange music (manager of Tech N9ne before Tech joined Shady) said it best: "Think as rap not as a music genre yet a competitive {street} sport and EM is the is the holder of all the championships rather people like him or not they have to respect him as he is the best in their sport" You judge rappers not by the amount of albums sold yet their ability to freestyle and battle. Battle: Eminem went against Everlast , Ja Rule, ICP, Canibus, Limp Bizkit, Moby, Nelly (yes Nelly, really old), and one of the most violent ends on paper Mariah Cary. Everyone of these where slaughtered and the only one of these that keep going was ICP which has even died now due to the nature of what came of it. There was a even a rumor of a affair between Cary and Eminem which was deny'd by Cary and EM publicly confirmed it which sparked Cary's #1 song - "Obsessed" (yes that song is a Eminem diss) and Eminem followed up with "The Warning" which not only embarrassed her but him and made a clear threat that Cary would either stop or a video would be released. Since then Cary and her husband Nick Cannon had been sure to not cross paths with Eminem and there is a rumor that they dodged going to a reward ceremony last year in Cary's honor as Eminem was going to be there for his own reasons. I'm not going to post a link as this is Eminem's most graphic song but if you adults want to YouTube it is Eminem - The Warning. Freestyle: A lot of Eminems work is freestyle and I'll post one of the best examples of this. This is a must see for any hip-hop fan that's not seen it on 60-minutes. All rappers rap about girls or cars or about there riches but eminem never had these things he never actually owned cars throughout his life and the only the thing he raps about is life and they way people attach to him is amazing and his lines rhyme over every line and his chrouses are amazing and unlike other pop artists he doesnt does repetative lyric yea im a eminem fan his new shit isnt that great still better than all other rappers but compared to himself hes not that great ... his old shit is the best I hate people who stereotype rap as cars/money and girls. I have not seen a single rapper that has only done work on these three topics as you HAVE to be diverse. There will never be a rapper who only raps surrounding these three and yes it may be a big part and yes most air-play songs are of this nature but you stereotype all rap minus the one rapper you like is absurd. Give me the name of a single album that is all fame, girls and cars? You can't and you might find ones that are 3/4th but you wont find all as you claim. Repeat lyrics?! You mean a hook and/or chorus? ....Rap is always fresh and you never hear the same bars spit twice unless for purpose of hook or chorus. Might reuse but never repeat. You must be talking about hip-hop and must be unable to tell the difference from bars and a hook. Old Stuff? Slim Shady LP which was a very angry album that was dealing with his ex, child, his mom, many beefs starting and was one of his most vulgar? I'm not saying it's bad as it's not but how can you post what you did and then say his oldest is the best? Clearly idiot... dr dre brought - Eminem, Busta Ryhmes, Snoop Dogg, 2pac, 50 Cent (Eminem FOUND 50 Cent and told Dr. Dre about him, so really Eminem is the reason 50 Cent is here) Jay-Z, and Alicia Keys famous, and I'm pretty sure he got Ice Cube and Notorious B.I.G. So many errors in that post... I like Eminem, I can say I used to listen to his songs a lot a few years back but nowadays the only time I listen is when it magically pops up on shuffle on my ipod which is rare. I loved it when he was in D12, the songs they made were priceless and awesome! My favourite song by Eminem is Til I Collapse, best song for a workout/cycle YES! I'm not a Eminem fan but as I love the work he does in Shady 2.0, Bad Meets Evil and D12 and some of my favorite's: My Band, One Shot Two Shot, Purple Pills, Lighters, Bet Cypher.
