I've seen topics about what people's first online game was... but never anything about MMOs oddly enough. Let's change that. So, to all of the adventurers, elves, mages, orcs, and wizards out there... what was the first MMORPG that you played? How did it affect you? Do you still play it? My answer is probably going to be one of the more boring/typical ones... The first MMO I played was Runescape. It was still pretty new and at the time, my family didn't have internet access so I was limited to going to the library or playing at school. I couldn't play any games online except for what would run in a browser (Netscape woo! ). I discovered it by walking past some computers and seeing this 20-something guy who smelled like he drank for a living playing a (what I thought at the time) impossibly immersive game. And it started from there. I'd say it completely changed what I looked for in games and believe it or not, helped me interact with people (I've always been shy). A few years later, when my classmates were playing club penguin and trying to talk about sex while avoiding the autoban censor, I was busy slaying my way through dungeons and running quests. Told a few friends about what I played, and ended up eventually converting the entire class into Runescape players. I don't play it anymore (hell, I don't know whether I can even access my old account- it was on a msn email), but it started my foray into online gaming and I met some great people on there. And I can honestly say that without playing Runescape, It's possible I never would've really "gotten" into roleplaying games much at all. Damn, would I have missed out. Nowadays I play more modern and immersive Korean MMOs. Primarily Black Desert Online and infrequently (though I used to play all the time) TERA. I find it's a great way to get away from a stressful day, find adventures when I can't afford many travels, and meet wonderful people like you folks. Feel free to post your adventures and ask questions about mine. I hope to hear about your travels and turn this into an epic thread of many tales with your help! Cheers, and may you drink many pints of ale over a warm fire. An unrelated basic game timeline that lead me to FA:

Hi there, First of all, for those who dunno this game, some reviews (found on metacritics): games Sep 19, 2012 90 It's very slick, enormous fun, continually dynamic, and more than any other MMO it brings the genre closer to the ideal of a fantasy world filled with hundreds of players in which just about anyone can lose themselves. That sentiment, as much as anything else, makes it well worth playing. All this publication's reviews Read full review Eurogamer Sep 18, 2012 90 It's not the levelling, it's the taking part that counts. That's what makes Guild Wars 2 great. Almost every aspect of its design serves the individual player and whole community equally, and there's a breezy willingness to put the content ahead of the grind throughout. It's a little lightweight, perhaps; its fantasy world is more picturesque than truly enveloping, and its social and gameplay hooks offer instant gratification over ties that bind. But it's still the most coherent, seamless, social and fun MMO in a long time - and the only one that can call itself truly modern. All this publication's reviews Read full review Eurogamer Portugal Sep 17, 2012 90 Given that a monthly subscription is not required, there is no major reason not to return to the fantastic world of Tyria, and I can personally say that I intend to continue to play it in the future. That's the best compliment I can give to this game. All this publication's reviews Read full review 4Players.de Sep 14, 2012 90 For me this is the best and most important online role-playing game since Mythic's Dark Age of Camelot. ArenaNet managed to eradicate the grind-treadmill with simple but very effective attention to detail. This excursion into the fantasy theme park named Tyria, where on every corner there's a new ride to experience in form of the many things you can discover, is well worth its entry fee. All this publication's reviews Read full review Gamereactor Sweden Sep 13, 2012 90 Guild Wars 2 offers a glimpse of the future for online RPG. It really feels like something new, it's also really exciting and good fun. All this publication's reviews Read full review IGN Sep 12, 2012 90 ArenaNet has built one of the most exhaustively detailed and rewarding MMOs in existence, one that never unfairly penalizes and fosters an incredible urge to explore through a generous reward system and achingly pretty environment design. All this publication's reviews Read full review JeuxActu Sep 12, 2012 90 It's simple: everything in Guild Wars 2 as a MMORPG title is attractive, starting with its free-to-play status. But Guild Wars 2 also proposes something new in the MMORPG world with its dynamic quests system, and its really ambitious fighting sequences that will surely please many players looking for a big and dangerous fantasy universe, holding many secrets to uncover. Now you know a bit more, about this game, i wanted to know if there's any player around here who do actually play at GW2. Furthermore, as it is now freetoplay ( and it's not a paytowin for sure, if you wanna "buy" stuff, it will be mostly apperences of caracter that you'd change, exept for the addon, but not necessary to enjoy this game), I think that it may be a good oportunity to bring over new guys/ladies join in. Project Gorgon Hey guys, Wondering if anyone wants to try out Project Gorgon with me. It is a mmo kinda like runescape but in real time (that is the best way to describe it). Just downloading it now, it is free to play and is in the alpha stage. http://projectgorgon.com/game/play-now <--- Download ! The graphics are not the high points of it but I think it is worth a shot. For those who don't have the worlds greatest computer, I am sure you could run it too
