Leader RedBaird Posted August 6, 2018 Leader Posted August 6, 2018 (edited) Imagine marching in mass ranks into explosive cannon-fire like this from multiple guns. Movies tend to show explosive shells from the very beginning of cannons, which is more to our modern stereotypes. The first cannons fired solid balls that simply bowled over swaths of men and horses each time they were fired. Cannister shot a close range was even worse. "Swath" : 2. a row or line of grass, grain, or other crop as it lies when mown or reaped. Edited August 6, 2018 by RedBaird 1 1 Quote
Senior Member Vindstot Posted August 6, 2018 Senior Member Posted August 6, 2018 Am I seeing it correctly that the "US Cival war cannon" stands no chance against "a modern APC"? I sometimes imagine what it would look like if 10 modern marines were placed into medieval Europe with the purpose to conquer as much land as they can. Like when 168 Spaniards conquered the Inca Empire who fielded 100'000 warriors. Quote

Those sounds that the cannon balls make when there flying in there are almost as scary to me as mortars And when it did hit it did more damage then I was expecting with just pure momentum force what a cool video! History can be ironic. Thats true. Also the Spaniards arrived at the best possible time for them. A strong ruler just passed and it was in the middle of a succession crisis. Spain supported the pretender and could put him on throne and made him their puppet. But the Spaniards treated the Incas terribly and eventually revolted. But the invaders managed to hold out just long enough in 2 cities until reinforcements arrived. We know how it ended Quote
