It was the nvidia developer toolkit not the GPU itself. Think of JRE vs JDK. I think some of the extra stuff in the development package was causing issues in ET... uninstalling that fixed it for me but that's all I did.

Issue was a nvidia developer toolkit. Now that that's uninstalled, the game works normally.

Some cvars such as "cg_gun_frame" (or something close to that) can cause it to crash at the end of a game/map switch if set to a certain value.
