Getting New Computer....Transferring ET Over?

I just ordered a new computer (parts haven't arrived yet, so it'll be about a week), and I just have a general question on what's the easiest way to transfer ET over to my new PC. I'm going from Windows 7 to Windows 10 if that matters.

My main concerns are losing my XP and having to go around asking for levels and stuff. Not sure if my GUID will change either.

Can I just copy the files onto an external HD and then paste them into my new computer? Or are some of these problems simply unavoidable?

Thanks.

Pretty sure you just go into your ET folder and copy your Etkey file and your silent.dat files. I think easiest way is to maybe send yourself an email with the files? Or use an external flash drive to transfer...

You only need 2 files I think. In ETmain you want your etkey file. In the Silent folder you want Silent.dat. Either send those as attachments via email or just put them on a usb stick for when you get your new PC. Then when you reinstall ET just copy the files back to their proper folders. If it asks you to override or replace any similar files, just say yes. ^.^

Sinful is right. Also, copy all the maps out of your etmain folder so you can move them back after you reinstall et on your new computer. This way you don't have to sit there and d/l all of them again, one at a time. So maps, etkey, and silent.dat - and also your personal cfg

The more files you move, the higher the risk for corruption. I'd opt for silent.dat and etkey.

There is no corruption in maps. I've been backing up and moving maps to etmain on new installs for 10 years with no problems, ever

Some people have participated in a lottery for 10 years and haven't even won a consolation prize in the time.

But let's stick to helping the OP. He's worried that he might lose the exp and levels. Those are in the etkey file and, for the silent mod, in the silent dat files, I think.

I'm not trying to argue with you but helping means probably making sure once he starts connecting to servers, he doesn't have to sit through every map d/l'ing

You are all right.

But the minimum is its GUIDS (silent GUID and ETKEY)

With that hou will keep your XP and you wont have to be set again on the FA servers.
