schNee Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 ello! ...since i have sometimes issues playing et on my mac plus cannot play etpro on it i was thinking about buying me a mini pc which doesnt cost much. i now got a mac mini (http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD389LL/A/mac-mini-23ghz-quad-core-intel-core-i7-with-os-x-server), which i really like cause its so tiny and doesnt need much space plus its a killing machine when it comes to power and stuff. since i have external keyboard, mouse and 2 screens i'm searching for mini pc and so far i found this: https://www.asus.com/Mini-PCs/VivoMini-UN45/ so my questions: good enough to play et smooth? seems bit less ram other mini pc u would suggest i don't want to buy me a tower i have no space for that and dont want to spend much money, since it would be only for et but 130 EUR are not that much. thanks for ur help on this. =) 1 Quote
Xernicus Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Could you give some infos on your specific mac mini and operating system?I will edit my post in around 10 minutes with instructions, but could you say when you bought you mac mini, and the last time you did an update? Quote
schNee Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 https://support.apple.com/kb/SP659?viewlocale=en_US&locale=de_DE using the quad core 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM and a fusion drive. bought it 2 month ago, a used one, cause i wanted to have a quad core. but the new mac minis only have dual core. running el capitain since sierra has some struggles with my music software so im waiting a bit till they got this fixed before i update. im playing et via "play on mac" i tried some other stuff too. i just have sometimes issues with my mouse (razer copperhead) - drivers for mac are outdated and not working so sometimes my mouse stucks and i got fps lags then. (seems like automatically limiting to 60fps) i tried to disable vsync (cause i heard it could be an issue too), but they removed it in xcode since os 10.10, at least i couldnt get it disabled. so yeah i guess i tried allready al what i could find on the internet but it happens like once in a game so i can deal with it. im just missing et pro =) 1 Quote

Specs indicate upgrades are easily obtained. My only concern is the lack of fan for the CPU. ET is old but it is CPU dependent. There is this - https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-ASM100-1580-i3-4130T-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00MA7AMKY/ref=sr_1_2/159-4611513-9260243?ie=UTF8&qid=1477011272&sr=8-2&keywords=alienware%2Balpha - it is no longer in production, but since you mentioned your machine would be for ET only it could be worth it? Then there is this one - https://www.amazon.com/Intel-D34010WYK-DisplayPort-i3-4010U-Consumer/dp/B00F3F381A?tag=lifehackeramzn-20&ascsubtag=90ab2af4ba731e4f851d14d756d21e4cc3b84ff5&rawdata=%5Br%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Flifehacker.com%2Ffive-best-small-form-factor-pcs-1701619172%5Bt%7Clink%5Bp%7C1564239492%5Ba%7CB00F3F381A%5Bau%7C5727177402741770316%5Bb%7Clifehacker Not sure if these are available to you but may be worth looking at for comparisons at least. Also good to note that ET is a highly tweakable game, and most of which is done via GPU. Since these mini pcs are budget friendly you would be looking at intergrated gfx. So what you get is what you get. There are a few models that offer the ability to swap out cards, but the price would increase considerably. Quote

MummyT Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 http://www.intel.eu/content/www/eu/en/nuc/overview.html you can choose CPU (i3 or i5). What you additionally Need is a HD, some RAM and an operating system. Wireless and Bluetooth is included meanwhile. Vesa Mount for placing it behind your Monitor is included. For playing ET with low graphic requirements its perfect. greetings M. Quote
