Shoes
Hello all, got myself a new to me computer. I've used Mac's for years, they work well for the work I do, and I play COD4, so it does that not bad too. I have been gifted a PC that's a few years old. It seems decent enough, but it could be better. I don't know a whole shit ton about PC's so I thought I would seek some advice. The current specs are: i3 2100 3.1 GHZ CPU P8H61-M LE/CSM Motherboard Crucial M4 64GB SSD Seagate 500GB HDD Antec VP450 Power 8 GB ram HIS Radeon 4890 and Windows 8 I know some of this is junk. Sooo.. what do you recommend? Think cheap upgrade. Maximum bang for minimum $$$
Krayzie
Processor and GFX card. What's your budget? Will probably need to grab a new power supply as well.
Xernicus
I'd put the graphics card above the processor, myself. Getting a high power GPU that takes only one slot will be tricky, but can be done. I know XFX has an R7 250X "Ghost" that is single slot, and EVGA has some nVidia options if I recall correctly. If you are fine with only one 1x PCIe slot (that is, if you don't need to use the second) then you'll have a wider selection to choose from. After the GPU, you'd probably want to move to an i5 (or i7) CPU. An i5 will run you about 200 bucks for your machine. I always replace the stock heatsink myself, so that's something to consider if you're going to be pushing the thermals/overclocking. As for the PSU, I could forsee that being a limiting factor indeed, as the current components have rather low energy consumption. It shouldn't be too expensive to get a decent Corsair or Antec 500w PSU that should serve you well into the future with that motherboard. I personally use a ThermalTake PSU in this build, but I've heard mixed reviews about them.
