Question about name stealing..

what is the policy regarding name stealing? Currently there is a player that visits FA servers as {RU} Victim but in reality he isn't that actual player. He is pretending to be that player among others at times on FA (BBA Chosenone, DS apocolypse, etc). I know I'd be pissed if someone was pretending to be me on a server.

The real RU Victim was on BBA 1 at the same time he was on FA 1. I was curious as while the guy on FA was decent, he wasn't near as good as the real one. So I popped on BBA while the imposter was on FA and talked to the real RU victim.

Yes I think yesterday I saw him change his name from choosenone to victim but in this case without them making a complaint about this guy stealing their name its not much that we can do, most of the time nubs steal names and if you are into rating it can be a bit frustrating thats why I always say use different characters for same color and that way these guys wont ruin your rate, also register your nick, so worst thing that is gonna happen if this person plays with your nick its gonna say looking on SL. There was also someone posing as Fem, Righteous, Rainier and me last week.

lol dunno if its coincidence or not but Pro* clan got f*cked totally yesterday on sl

jackbauer, n3kr0n, sma$h and aspirin got f*cked badly

they also wanted to f*ck konvict and dtec his rating but this failed

wondering who this guy might be...(if it isnt a whole clan who did this together..)

Be on the lookout, theres been a player using your name as well, hes a piss poor sniper nowhere near as good as you.

I think there's be vigilant and see the level that has the impostor, if you do not have levels within the server then terminated by any clan member pm quickly so that the impostor is banned.

well, the point is simple. How would you feel if someone was pretending to be you on various servers? Most gamers choose a handle and with tags added it tends to make that handle unique. Why would anyone pretend to be someone else on a server? Its at its best, identity theft, just handles instead of real names. How bout if I visited various ET servers using your nick and made an ass out of myself and got banned (not a huge stretch there). So whenever you connect using "ohurcool" your ass is instantly banned on say, FA servers, BBA servers, etc. Wouldn't you be a tad pissed? Granted you can change your nick at anytime, however if you are a member of a clan, with a well known nick, that's gotta be a ton of bullshit. Lets say someone decides he wants to be F|A Rainer on various servers (not FA) and hacks, causes shit, or gets banned for being an ass on not just an ET server, but maybe l4d, COD, etc. When F|A Rainer then plays a multiplayer game using his clan tag, handle etc and gets instant banned on a server for (in his view no reason), wouldn't he be a bit pissed? Most gamers, outside of f***ing idiot kids, understand that stealing a handle isn't cool. While many may choose a similar name, handle, etc, using clan tags along with it is down right theft. Its dishonest, intentional and simply put, bullshit...

 

On a side note, I pm'd the guy pretending to be RU victim today on the server asking " just curious, but why do u pretend to be ru victim when you really aren't that player?". He immediately changed his handle without a reply...

I don't really care some1 using my name , I don't visit any other server except FA's, never did after leaving my past clan , but yeaa again if somebody using name yoyo on any FA server, then its not a issue for me, until he uses tags too >.> ( I will bite you for sure for this ) .

 

anyways , I think somebody is trying to clever and playing game , 2 days back a player name' daas nab ' changed name to "k0ssux" while real k0ssux was right there on server , and got kicked for name stealing by pb ... I highly doubt of kicked player by pb of even real 'das nab' .

I couldn't care less if someone "stole" my name. It's a video game, and since names can't be reserved by way of registration, serial codes, etc., then it's just something that has to be dealt with.

 

Do you really think that there is only one person for every nickname available? What about on SL, when it says, "Other players are using the player name "_____" as well."? Are those people stealing the name of whoever first created it? Of course not.

 

Besides, your logic is slightly contradicting. If someone has a well-known nick, then it's highly likely that they will have a well-known personality as well, especially if they are a member of a clan. Thus, if their name is seen acting differently than they usually do, no one's gonna believe that it's truly them. There are many people that don't talk much at all when they play, including this {RU}Victim guy. If I noticed him "causing shit" or "being an ass", then I'd be surprised and would question if it was really him or just a namefaker.

 

People fake Winghaven's name and mAus' name all the time. Yet, no one cares about it...

 

Anyway, the point is that FA is one of the only decent servers worth playing on, so I couldn't care less if I was banned on any other servers, especially a shitty one like BBA. Even if I did, then I would change my name/IP/etkey and reconnect.

much raters only have 1 name and they change colour codes. When they do this sl will say 'other players are using same player name' but actually its the same player..

I think those are 2 of the most stolen names around... Although mostly its "____ cfg user", not just the name
