SiD Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Anyone else take part in this shit? I just got involved in a local city auction group on Facebook and I'm damn addicted already. Been on there about a week and have already won 4 items. I'm kind of a cheeky **** about it too. I NEVER bid on the item. I think it's stupid as f*** to big on a 3 day auction until the last day. Why drive the price up against others? I tend to snipe what I want. I see the ending time and I wait for the last minute to come up and bid in the last 5-10 seconds to snag it. **** move? Maybe. Profitable? Definitely. HAH. So far I've sniped 4 times.. Once for my own mother (that's how I got into it) and then three times for my own gain. Just gotta throw in there, it's funny as f*** to watch dudes argue on facebook over my bid, demanding admin decision on who won the item. I'm such a bastard. Lawl. So far I've spent $215 on this site and I think I've gotten a good haul. My first auction I won: Nintendo DS Lite. Already have the 3DS XL, but this thing came with an R4 card and a ton of games on it. (Over 200 NDS + Gameboy and NES). ...$40 lawl Second Auction was a bit better value. I literally won a box of playstations! In the box: 1 PS2 Slim (silver) 1PS2 (Black) 1 Normal Playstation 1 1 Modded Playstation 1 (to play burnt games) 13 games (Including Resident Evil 2!!) 7 Controllers Eyetoy for Ps2 All the hookups ...All for $50. SCORE. The last item is probably the best of them all lol At least in terms of value. This one dude was pissed that I sniped it and even begged the lady hosting the auction to sell it to him instead. Thankfully she was awesome. I got: 1 Mint in Box Borderland 2 PS Vita Bundle (Retail Value currently at $199+tax = $226) 1 Nerf Armor Case (Retail 14.99+ tax = $17) 1 Copy of Soul Sacrifice (Retail $19.99 + tax = $22.50) 1 Copy of Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remake (Retail $19.99 +tax =22.50) FF X/X2 is hard to find in retail and is listed on Amazon for around $30 so it could cost more. Total: $288 I paid.... ...$125!! Ah hah. Suffice to say I'm officially addicted to this shit now. You can get really awesome deals. Anyone else do this or intersted in the whole auction war thing? And this is coming from a dude who loathes those TV show types. I kinda see what the fuss is about now lawl. 1 Quote
Krayzie Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I use to admin a couple aunction pages on Facebook back when I was with my daughter's mom. We used to make a bit of money off it as well. Was alright. Nothing cool like what you got though. Quote
audrey Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I often bid on ebay. Item often gets snatched in the last second by some b*** like you. I raged a lot, stopped doing it, I only do "buy it now" now. Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted July 6, 2015 Administrators Posted July 6, 2015 I feel I always loose money on it. Bidding was never my cup of tea. Let's just say in plain words: I suck at it. You can put those items on resale if you don't need it in our buy / sell section or on craiglist or on ebay. My friend does sell lot's of items on ebay. It's too much for me. I just feel like whole world is out doing fraud and scams and you got to be careful when you sell the items. I really don't have that much time. Neither I have patience of it nor skills to keep up with perfect shipping and all. Quote
docwarren Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I'm a sniper on eBay, but only for my NASCAR die cast car collection. Have been collecting since 1996 or so. I am down to 2 cars that I want that would make my collection complete (in my eyes). I used to bid early and see if I got it. Then I learned to wait and watch. If it is going for a good price, I will sneak a bid in in the last 30 seconds. And if there is an item that doesn't get any bids, I will message the seller and see if he would take an offer. Never hurts to ask and I have gotten 3 like this. Die cast cars are a funny market sometimes. And knowledge of the little things can be the difference between paying $60 for a $400 car and paying $400 for a $60 car. See some list a remake car at the price of an original and some that obviously have no clue what they actually have. I used to take advantage of that. And that is a **** move. But I have changed to where I message a seller to share my knowledge to help them out. Unless you a very knowledgeable, you won't know the difference between the $60 and $400 car. What can be the difference can be something as obvious as a whole roof painted the wrong color or something as small as a wrong color pinstripe on a wheel rim. These "Error Cars" are some of the most valuable. I have several Error Cars. Mostly, they produced a 1st run of these cars and sold them before someone detected the error. They would correct it and move on. This opens a whole new can of worms as you can have sellers that take a later production and modify the car to look like the error car. Wish they would prosecute these frauds, but it falls under "buyer beware". Sorry to turn this into a lecture about one specific collectable, but it is an obsession, as you said. 1 Quote
