Well I have spent countless hours over this last decade trying to figure out what I can't make some jumps. For some reason, I can't reach the first jump of certain courses, this is probably because i have a bad starting jump but I don't know what I am doing wrong.

So please, I am really desperate to know what is my problem and I think you guys can help me out to solve this mystery that has been haunting me forever,

Yea, I'm in the same boat as you, a lot of the time. I'm fine once I get going but I always seem to have a hard time getting started in certain situations. I always chalked it up to not getting enough speed or my timing was off. I'm hoping some good trickjumpers post up, since I would like to improve on my jumps as well.

You aren't getting enough speed from your initial movement. I've never really done any TJ maps but just for regular strafe jumping your first movement needs to be faster and produce more speed

You aren't getting enough speed from your initial movement.

That's what I just realized few hours ago.

I set the time scale to 0.1 and I found out that to make the jump you atleast need 444 ups to reach that platform. I can finally make the jump at that timescale, but I will try to figure out how to do it at normal speed. If I can pull it off, I will make a tutorial that will finally explain how to do it.

Acid, check pm. I can show you how to do tj stuff :)

If more people are interested I can make a vid.

Edit: Try using stable values with fps.

I was never a pro at gammajumping, but I could do some 'medium skilled' ones back then, like half of the kragle jumps, now I totally suck but as regards the start, I can tell you this:

an important thing is the speed you have when you leave the ground. on etpro there is a speedometer. enable it.

you gain speed on the ground by holding w+a or w+d and rotating with your mouse, but the mouse speed is crucial. too fast or too slow is gonna make you fail. This ground speed is important also in some jumps like frostbite side or radar side.

To get a feeling for the right speed, do this:

- enable etpro speedometer

\cg_lagometer 0 (or you can't see the speed graph)

\b_drawspeed 4 (ups + speedometer + max)

\resetmaxspeed to reset the max speed value

- don't sprint, just walk. the color is green (walking speed in standard ET is 256 ups)

- now hold w+a or w+d and turn. if your mouse speed is 'right' your speed will be high enough to reach yellow in the graph (I reached 323.9 ups but a better player could get a higher value, what's more I'm testing this in goldrush allied spawn, where there isn't much space)

- practice turining steadily so you have a lot of yellow in a row. that is the mouse speed you need. it must be all yellow

- when you sprint, it's normally yellow (in fact sprint speed = 352 ups), but with circlestrafe it should go to orange (I reached 444.8, don't know what's the max)

You should jump when your ground speed is very high, it doesn't matter how long you turn but you must jump when your speed is max

once you are in the air, the game uses different physics (the same you have on the ice) so you must pay attention to the angle you form with your mouse (and how it increases with speed) rather than mouse speed itself.

and also when you jump you shouldn't hold jump for a long time.

I don't know many new maps since I used to play in TJ servers in 2007 but I remember a jump with a fairly tough start was neji jump 5 1st jump (the axis one, not allies). If your start sux you won't reach the 1st platform.

in FA forums there are some pro jumpers who might help you better. good luck.

You need to make your first srafe faster and with higher angle. ~90 degrees...

etjump203demos.rar

I've added two demos...

3 fails/wrong ways to start a jump + one correct way to do it.

Second demo has just one harder jump done without failure... :)

(Demos are recorded with etjump 2.0.3)

My offer still stands from last time you posted about trick jumping :P. No better way than speccing and being spectated while on ts/vent with a knowledgeable jumper! I'll keep you from even having to use that ugly cgaz :D

http://classic.xfire.com/video/6154a4/ I'll have you doing jumps like this in no time!

For your starts copy what this guy is doing.  It's quake 3 but all the same rules apply in reference to starting.  If you were to be looking strait down as you start imagine following a 1/4 of a circle.

Another good example.
