So f***ing stupid...Top gear is a huge source of viewership for the BBC. I mean, 1 million people signed a petition to reinstate Clarkson and without Clarkson, there is no top gear.

So popularity should allow a person do and act however they want?

Shame, but if the allegations are correct, then I agree with the decision.

There are likely differing opinions as to the events though. We'll see.

Be interesting what Hammond and May do... If I was them I wouldn't continue on without Clarkson... If the show draft in someone new there won't be that good bond that the old 3 had...

I'm not suggesting that as an absolute rule. Obviously you need to balance it and factor in everything. In this case, firing Jeremy Clarkson may lead to a significant drop in viewers, so it would have been wise to seek a different decision (hefty fine, etc.)

The show can't survive with Hammond or May at the wheel. Although the three work well together, Clarkson has always been the centerpiece; you get rid of him, you remove the chemistry that made the show popular.

agree with the decision, considering he had a number of warnings about his behaviour and he's been investigated by Ofcom before. The BBC can't keep someone who commits assault or is casually racist or sexist and, is for millions of people world wide, the face of the corporation. it's unfortunate though cause i've been watching Topgear every Sunday since I was 8

I'm sad about this, but if we're all being honest, he has crossed the line many times, more than probably anyone else would have been allowed.

Hopefully the show will live on.

Jeremy Clarkson is top gear  without him the show will die like to see if he decides to do his own show because it would work and take the hammond and may with him. He was always getting pulled for what he says and people forget that was what he was all about saying thing that no one else would shame really because he one of the big stars of bbc.

Racist: that's a serious accusation. He alluded to the N-word during a show, but that hardly qualifies as racism.

Sexist: nope. Although there are people calling him a sexist, they have an astounding inability to locate a single example of his sexism in action.

Sure, he's an oaf who manages to piss off people. But it if bothers someone, they shouldn't watch it. I find fox news offensive and devoid of value, therefore I don't watch it.

And really. I'm an American. Clarkson takes jabs at Americans on a weekly basis, but I don't outraged over it.

Didn't they already say they didn't wanna continue without him?

I'm +1'ing everything Melgibson said!! He's a legend and the show won't be the same without him. Many people are going to refuse to watch it, and as James May has suggested, they are a unit, meaning all 3 presenters may be leaving...in which case that'll be the end of Top Gear I reckon. Top Gear is by far one of my favourite, if not my genuine all time favourite TV show. And Clarkson was my favourite presenter of the show.

I'm not trying to justify what he did should go unpunished, however the BBC have made a huge mistake in letting him go completely. As it's the biggest and most viewed TV show in the world, they're going to be losing millions from this. If it were me in charge of the BBC, I would have continued to the end of the series, then figured out a solution that would have supported both parties, before beginning a new series. I don't think even the producer whom Clarkson got into a 'scrap' with, wanted this, as he failed to file a complaint report to the BBC, generally meaning that he can get over it, and move on from it.

I, along with probably millions of others, have just got to hope and pray, that all 3 presenters retire from the current show, and move to ITV or Sky, and begin a new TV series. I'm not even bothered about what, just so long as they're on TV, and working together once again. Those 3 are worth buying a TV license for, alone. And I hope BBC feel the remorse and effects for this joke of a solution.

(Now to Dave where I will be Top Gear marathoning lol).

He said the n-word while being recorded off air, which was subsequently quoted in tabloid newspapers. It was national news mate. He also called a Burmese person a slope, which is derogatory colonial lingo. He is sexist, as he always talks about how women are worse at driving that men are. He is homophobic in describing cars 'a bit gay' or 'a bit ginger beer'. He is brash and makes comments that he most certainly shouldn't, and can easily avoid. For example he talking about how all lorry drivers kill prostitutes, just a couple of days after that actually happened somewhere in England. I think you need to read more about his controversies mate cause there are a f***-load. And I like Jeremy and I like the show and all, but you can't argue with that.

Fair enough. For the sake of the argument, I'll concede that he a politically incorrect jackass who steps on everyone's toes (even though with the slope comment, the joke was that the word has more than one meaning). But I don't see anything wrong with it. Comedy revolves around absurdity, and if comedians like Clarkson don't have the right to push the boundary than comedy is going to get boring real fast. There's a difference between overt racism and comedy, and it's a distinction I'm not convinced many of the detractors of Clarkson understand.

I get that being politically correct is big in Britain, but I don't think comedy should have to suffer for it. If you find it offensive (not you specifically, but critics of Clarkson), then don't watch it. So long as it's harmless jabs (and that's all clarkson does), then it should be allowed to run.No one's being disenfranchised or deprived of their basic human rights when Clarkson calls Americans fat pigs. It's just a joke and it shouldn't be taken for more than that.

As for the punching someone in the face, that's a different story. He should get shit for that
