yo guys,

 

what i always wondered was the "Big" differences all the server mods have.

i mean like why is there jay, nq , etpub, silent.

why isnt there just like 1 normal mod and etpro.

 

can someone explain the biggest differences between all? 

i always play on NQ because it plays more comfortable IMO. dont know why..

maybe this is a stupid question i just dont get the it.

The differences are...I challenge you to:
 
  • Visit every one of them and enjoy.
  • Play 1 hour or 1 map in every server.
  • You'll tell me the differences between each server and I will add more(if I seems there is need to add more differences).
  • After that we gonna argue what is better.

Papito's challenge is a perfect way to find out. There are a lot of subtle differences and quite a few major differences. Really the only way you find them all is to play each and find out.

it's hard to tell the difference, because it's not about mods alone. It's about mods, server settings (maps, number of player slots, speed, xpsave etc. etc.), regular players you find in the server and how they play, etc.

 

if you set up jaymod without doublejump and weird stuff, limit the slots to 16, disable xp, etc. and call some etpro players there in typical etpro maps, you won't (almost!) notice it's jaymod and not a classic etpro server.

 

if you tell some jaymodders to go together to an etpro server (set up with xpsave, maps like Venice or similar), again you will see some differences (slightly different hit detection, no double jump, etc.) but it would feel similar to jaymod.

well, the only differences i've seen so far are the ones i see as a "small" difference..

 

like:  double jump > max skills in each class 4 or 9 > poisoned knives etc.

also i think the silent server is slower paced then the NQ one. i could have this wrong.

in a way, yes. but just like sunlight said, this mostly depends on the players on the server and the serversettings. for example if you decided to change nq1 to silentmod but keep the same settings that you have in nq1, the pace will be the same as before.

If you talk about how fast players move, in reality the speed is the same in all mods. But server owners can change g_speed to a nonstandard value. Again, as I said before, server settings play an important role.

 

For example, you can have fast shooting on etpro as well, but I've never seen a server using it.

It does depend on server settings a lot, but some server settings aren't available on all mods.

Examples:

-nq wars

-poison knifes jaymod

-molotov cocktails jaymod

-+kick noquarter (not sure)

-crazygravity jaymod

 

Etc. So yes, server settings would be able to make some mods look exactly like each other, but on the other hand we would be able to make silent/jaymod/nq servers that can't be imitated in other mods.
