+fluffybunny+
Just curious as to what kind of set up some of you were working with. Wanted to get a discussion going about mice and mouse pads to see if we can learn a thing or two from each other. If you have no interest in becoming a better player then this topic is not for you, but I always want to improve at everything I do. I am sure some of you do also. One of the best RTCW players of all time used to glue metal washers to the bottom of his mouse to reduce friction between mouse and pad. Nothing you can say here would surprise me. lol. What type of mouse do you use? What type of mouse pad? Dpi and polling rate? Thoughts about these settings? Do you warm up before playing? How do these things effect your aim personally? And what advice would you give to players that are still using stock settings? Etc.....

pipel
Mouse: Razer Deathadder Mousepad: Steelseries qck DPI: 800 Polling rate: 500hz Feels smooth for me and no I don't warmup before playing. Finding a good sens is a key for aiming imo. All you need is a good vision and stable fps when it comes to configs. Use the one that you like the most. +fluffybunny+
Mouse: Razor Deathadder - I have been tweaking my settings with this mouse a little lately. Trying to find the settings that are the smoothest. Right now I have had much improvement with my dpi set at 1800 (half of the max for the mouse) and my polling rate set to 500. Most standard mice have a polling rate that is measured in hertz and is 125hz. This means that the mouse is sending its location to your computer 125 times per second, or once every 8 milliseconds. Here is a link to a comprehensive article about dpi and polling rates ---> http://www.howtogeek.com/182702/mouse-dpi-and-polling-rates-explained-do-they-matter-for-gaming/ Mouse Pad: 13x10in Rocketfish; two-sided rough (control), and smooth (speed) - I use the smooth side because friction is the enemy. - it is also worth noting that keeping these surfaces clean is extremely important. Meaning the mouse pad and the "feet" of the mouse. If you have grease, sweat, and pizza all over your mouse pad then you probably aren't going to do so well. As you are sweeping someone's head, at the ends of your left and right motion, your hand a mouse will briefly "stick" if you don't have clean surfaces. Stick = you die. - though i don't have one I would recommend a mouse pad made of glass. You won't find a smoother surface As Pipel pointed out, another key element for your hardware to come together is STABLE frames per second. If you can't achieve this then all the hardware tweaking will be worthless. Default for ET is 80 fps (frames per second). Most veteran players change this to 125fps and can be stable without an incredibly fast cpu. Though we could create a whole other topic about this and other cvar tweaks. I always warm up before playing. A good technique is to enter a game. Find an object in the map that is approximately head level. Strafe back and forth as if you were in a gun fight and try your best to keep your reticle on this object. The smaller the better. Thanks to everyone for their input!!!! meow
Mouse: Razer Deathadder mousepad: random old mousepad with mooses on it 800 dpi, 500 pollrate. I'm so used to it that when i tried higher DPI i just couldnt stand it i dont warm up My in game sensitivity is 1.65 and 0.65 when I'm shooting. My advice is find settings you like and never change them. I've been using the same config for like 10 years. I got used to it and own with it!!! TulsaGeoff
I use a logitech g500 mouse and a large QcK+ mousepad. I set my sensitivity low but just high enough that I can perform a 180 with my mouse in the middle of the pad and moved to either side. I reduce the y-axis movement via settings so its slower than the x-axis to help keep the mouse at headshot level while people are strafing side to side.
