How to protect your house from thieves.....maybe

First of all, this is a true story.

 

A guy had his house broken into twice and lots of things stolen.  He knew who was doing it, but couldn't catch him.

He hit upon an idea that might work.

 

He made it clear to his neighbors in the area that he had just gotten a grant to study poisonous snakes.

He was very happy and let it be known that he had poisonous snakes coming to his house for study.

 

He put signs on his doors and windows that poisonous snakes were in the house.  He bought several

old fish tanks and put them in a room and then bought fake snakes and put them into the tanks.  He also

put out empty boxes on his driveway, showing pictures of expensive electronic items that were in them.

 

After a week or so, he let it be known that he was going out of town for a couple of days, but the snakes

would be all right until he got back.  He packed up some stuff and got into his car and drove away.  About

three blocks away he parked his car and then proceeded to sneak back into his house, where he waited

for the thief.  That night he heard noises outside his bedroom, and then heard the thief pry open his window,

and slide it back.  He heard the thief enter his house and close the window.  That's when the fun began.

 

The owner had taken a toy, that made a shaking motion, and attached a baby rattle to it and fitted it with

a voltage converter so he could plug it in.  Which he did.  The device was under his bed.  When it came on

it sound like a really pissed off rattlesnake.  The thief just froze in his tracks, scared to move.  The owner then

call 911 and the police were there in minutes to take the thief to jail. The front of his pants was soaking wet.

 

During the investigation, the police found hundreds of items reported stolen over the last year or so by this

guy.  The items were returned.  The convicted thief got 13 months in jail and was never heard of again.

 

The whole neighborhood had a street party after his conviction.  The "deadly" rattlesnake was placed on a

table for all to see.    Neighbors were glad it was all concocted and that he didn't really have live poisonous

snakes in his house.

 

 

 

Here is another one from a town up near Portland, Oregon.

 

This was 2004.  A guy rode his bike to work everyday and chained it up to a metal hitch to protect it.  One day

he came down to get it and go home, and found it had been stolen.  He reported the theft.  He bought another one.

Two months later he came down and the bike was gone again.  He reported it.  This time he went to a local bike

shop that produced bicycles.  He had them build a bicycle exactly like his, with one exception.  He placed a lojack

into the frame of the bicycle.  Sure enough a few weeks later; gone.  This time the owner called the police, explained

the situation and the police, using a locater, found the missing bike.  Along with over 200 other bikes.  Including the two

previously stolen bikes from this guy.  The bicycles were neatly stacked and hung in a large outbuilding of the thief.  None had

any damage.  In fact they were shined and waxed and look like new.

 

It seems the guy had a fetish for bicycles, and would sit out in the garage for hours looking at them.

 

The owners were called and told, but most had reported the theft to their insurance company, so the bikes went to a charity

auction.  The thief went to jail for 30 days and then went to a hospital to get help for his problem.
