Sid I was kidding with you. Liberal is not a political party. It's a political Theology. There are republicans and democrats that are liberal and conservative,  There are gays, black, white, Asian christian non-christian, Mexican, non Mexican liberals and gay conservatives. Guys, I totally agree that taking down a memorial is an incredibly terrible thing  to do, as expressed by many above.

 

But, I find I am generally a liberal leaning moderate, on most topics, and I love Jesus, so please be careful throwing around big nets, because you might just catch things you didn't want to have in your boat.

 

To assume that a conservative political view is closer to Christianity than a liberal one is ridiculous and insulting, at best. So, whatever your thought on politics here, don't assume that "humanists" = "liberals".

 

My grandfather was in WW2 as well, but he went there to heal our soldiers as a Doctor, to save lives and not take them.

Sorry if that seemed personal, it really ain't. I do not like morons either (trust me I deal with them all day at work). But there are morons in every religion, political, theological, etc organization. When I see posts that just seem to target one particular group it cheeses me off because it can cause a lot of unintended conflict between friends. We don't need that around here, really.

 

The guys protesting this? Yes. They are f***ing idiots. There are some things in any country that you don't f*** with. This is one of them.

 

Take your anger out on the protestors, the guys doing this, not a specific 'ideology' that covers a wide spectrum of beliefs.

I agree.. And if anyone read my original post at the beginning, I said it was less about religion and more about history.. I didn't wanna get into a debate over religion or politics. I just wanted to say, quite F@#$%$g with our history.. It's not about the cross, it's about what it stood for at that time, and what it does still. To remember those who lost their lives in service of this country..

This is why " they" say to never discuss politics or religion with people....Well that's a load of BS. The free discussion and debate of both topics is how people begin to understand each other better, that is unless you act like the butthurt group that this topic was started about. Take for example, I would have never know Soul was a limp wristed, pinco commy demoncrat until he admitted his faults (   I jest, I jest) and to top things off he doesn't live in Jamaica, I figured it was some evil voodoo magic that made him so good at COD...that is until he sold his soul to the folks at Mojang and was lost to the minecraft server, then I was actually able to shot him when he got lost and wandered in to Abner's.

 

All these things and I still consider Soul to be a good friend...and I am glad to know him even if just through the net. We all need to remember to pause from time to time and laugh with friend, give a good ribbing to them and take the joshing that you deserve for the ribbing...Take it from a guy that knows all to well how unpredictable life can be and how precious a gift life and laughter is. If not for the clan and the shenanigans we can get up to, some days its just hard to get by .

Maybe it is just my dark twisted humor that I can have a good time roasting my friends and likewise, I don't really care if it is, my brain is warped for life from everything I've seem and done.

 

Now to get back on topic, maybe these people ( unhumanist is it?) should take a good hard look at what these men lived and died in before they start tearing down monuments

 

Go ahead tell me these men shouldn't have a monument to them, That war was so terrible the world thought it really was the war to end all wars, And what was gained by all that death and destruction? I wish someone could give me a real answer on it, For I have studied WW1 extensively and I can find no good reason for any of it. It's shameful to think that as we approach the 100th anniversary of WW1 there are people that want to destroy the only thing left to honor our fallen dead for no reason other than they don't want to look at a cross. If it is no more than a political crusade then raise the money to by the land from the local government and its not a issue anymore, but I doubt that is the case. Now this is just me talking and you will understand if I don't care if it upsets anyone, If the image of the cross upsets you, maybe you have some deep set issues that you need to address about your beliefs, perhaps you get scared looking at the symbol of Christianity because you doubt your choice to not believe, But that aside, the most prevalent religion in the USA during WW1 was Christianity, So it only seemed fitting to those that wanted to memorialize these men to use the cross, after all these men were sacrificed on the alter of war.  I'm done now....maybe
