So guys, I was thinking of buying a new laptop. My budget is up to $900. I was able to shortlist the following two laptops:

Lenovo Flex 15

Lenovo Ideapad U530

Which one do you think should I go for? Also if you guys have any other suggestions for a better laptop in this price range please tell me. Thanks a lot!

Hoping to get a good machine...

U530, if you are planning on gaming with the new laptop. It has a dedicated graphics card. I also like the hybrid drive, some ssd for you OS to run and boot quickly. Seems like a better overall computer for a little bit more.

U530. Nicer laptop for the price. Decent mobile card to boot (it's insane to see more decent gaming laptops coming out these days). Intel makes some nice shit, but I wouldn't trust that card as far as I could throw it. Could be me, but I've always had bad luck with Intel integrated cards.

I am also kind of leaning towards u530.. the graphics card is what is attracting me.. its going to have to support my games..

I agree with Dom^^^ I have a Lenovo X230T (I needed it for school), and while it is a great laptop, the integrated graphics card is pretty bad. I can barely play CoD4 at 90 fps on the lowest settings.

If you want to keep gaming, do not get one with an integrated graphics card. Happy hunting, good luck!

I looked around a bit and it looks like the Lenovo 510p is in your price range and would be a better fit if you  want to use it for gaming as well.

The main thing I don't like is the 5400RPM hard drive, but if you go for model on sale for $899 you get a 24GB SSD with the 1TB 5400RPM which isn't too bad.  It has 2GB Nvidia graphics 8GB of RAM (be nice if that was bigger too), but I think it will give you a better bang for your buck.

IMHO

Have fun!  I love buying new gear!

If you plan on playing any games you certainty want the dedicated graphics card. However, I don't recommend laptops for gaming.

I'd recommend a $350 laptop and a $550 budget gaming desktop that can be upgraded as time goes by.

Example: This i3 asus laptop was $300 recently. It would be plenty for school.

Then this i7 with GTX645 desktop for $532. You could always upgrade the graphics later.

So thats $832 and you get the best of both worlds. You just have to been on the lookout for deals.

Thrown in a 24" BenQ screen for $119 and you have a sick setup
