You can try to set ET only for 1 core, PB on other etc. There is some programs for it, idk what and where cause I'm having pretty old computer, but still I'm getting usually about 70fps with my handmade low graphic cfg(76 usually, a bit larger areas it drops to 50-60. Btw r_mode or number of players doesn't affect for your fps, but r_mode affects how much hz you can set on your monitor).

I'll try that - setting pb and et on different cores.

You're wrong about r_mode and number of players though - r_mode controls resolution, and is one of the biggest factor when calculating fps. Number of players also has huge impact on your FPS, in two ways. One - more players equals more actions in the game, which means more items to process. And two - many servers (esp on pubs) are pretty crappy, and can't handle many players. When they're overloaded, they cause internet lag which creates problems syncing with the server - which creates FPS lag.

Ding ding ding! When the idtech 3 engine was written GFX accelerators hadn't been on the market for too long so a lot of people didn't have them. Multicore processing wouldn't hit the market for at least another 5 years. You would be better off running this game with parts that were top-of-the-line in 2005 than a brand new PC.

BTW most pros play with 76 or 125 FPS if I recall correctly. Anything over 76 won't really help your game all that much.

Correct - I've stumbled upon this a few weeks ago. I OCd the processor to 3.2 but saw limited gains. Earlier today ordered an aftermarket cooler, when that arrives I'll try to push the CPU to 3.5-3.7. If this is true though, how do people get 300 fps? Do they all OC to 4.5ghz? I doubt it.

Relatively true about 76 fps, but there is an ulterior motive. I have a 2233RZ, and want to keep a stable 120 fps so it can sync with the monitor.

I'll share the findings once the cooler gets here on Fri :-)

That I can't tell you. I think it's just a matter of the engine liking certain setups (Intel/ATI would probably be better)

The reason for your problem would probably be the processor, and your background services. ET is based performance wise alot more on processor power than graphics, because of opengl. Hence why i can run onboard graphics and get 76 fps. But if i used say an e2200 processor and an ati 4850 that constant 76 fps wouldnt be happening. My best advice would be to disable antivirus while playing ET, cutting all unneeded processes to give your processor some more headend, and overclocking that processor is basically a waste of time. By the time you buy after market coolers, ect, you could have picked up a good intel chip. AMD, just dont overclock great, and overclocking isnt gunna help ET much anyway. My xfire is intented, hit me up if you want some help, i'm sure i can help you get atleast a smoother 76. Good luck

I monitored Nod32's processor and memory usage - it's virtually insignificant. As a test, there were no changes with AV off or on.

Not sure why you're saying that OCing that processor is a waste - a ton of reviews rave about the overclockability of this particular Phenom. The cooler I got (Death Knight) fits LGA 1366s as well as AM2 chips - thus if/when I decide to upgrade, it wont be a waste.

I overclocked the CPU from 2.8ghz to 3.65 without any problems. Performance difference is significant - not going to lie. I can generally hold 100 fps now, and the comp starts up visibly faster.

Dad / Boss - thanks for the help in pointing me in the right direction.

This is possibly a driver issue, any driver past 2007 gives me low fps, so I just use drivers from 2006 and they work fantastic.

With a computer like yours you could easily get 125 stable fps most of the time (except on oasis and other heavy maps, still depending on your gfx settings in ET).

For my part here's my config

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @ 3.11Ghz

4Gb DDR2

ATI Radeon HD 3650HD @ 512Mb

I can get 125 stable fps on most maps @ 1280*1024, with almost highest quality settings for ET. (r_picmip 0, r_subdivisions 4, r_roundimagesdown 0, texturebits and colorbits 32 and other settings to their best values).

Well here's a cfg containing the parts that i use for my gfx settings :) Maybe that can help since i'm getting good fps with a computer that has lower perfs than yours.
