Is it just me or are these both literally the same tune just with different words:

yeah what it works its that its same progressions on same tonality =). Just some minor tempo adjustments so they fit right =)

Pfft, I just guessed and I got it right. Not that hard :D

 

First bit is a little hard to explain unless you have a basic understanding of how music is made. Second bit is basically saying "they changed the speed a bit"

Lots and lots of tunes have the same chord progressions.

 

When you get into bands like these, they tend to not only have the same chord progressions, but they use the same chord voicings and registers (and rhythms), because that's really all they know how to play, which is fine. Music isn't about technique. However, it does limit them, and in the end you will find a whole bunch of songs that sound the same as a result.

 

Understandable.

 

The most remarkable (though not really the same as what we're talking about here) was that one dude's mashup of a bunch of nickelback songs, where they actually were all pretty much the same thing.
