indeed, my cat even understands his name and some words, and don't think I trained him or anything, it just comes naturally if you 'talk' to them (of course it can't be compared with the number of words a dog can learn) so more than obedience or fear I would talk of friendship

 

And some problems have causes, for example if you don't clean the litter box enough, or there is some other problem with it (wrong location, conflicts with other cats in the house, and many other things) then they can decide to poop elsewhere

 

Same for eating plants, cats need a bit of fiber so they naturally eat grass, if they can't they will eat your plants, and some of them could be toxic for the cat
